6  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Re: Medieval theme banquet dress? on: April 24, 2010 09:05:11 PM
Thank you so much for all the advices! After I posted this I've been so busy that I didn't really do anything about the dress, but now I'm freeeee~ (yayyyy). So me and my host mom cut the last 3 pieces of fabric by the pattern this afternoon and then we're kinda figured out how to do the sleeve (I use the simplicity 2757 pattern so it's sleeveless). I like a bell sleeve though, Alexus, but I decided not to do it.

So I tried to draw this sleeve from the book and make it a little tighter on the top.

I use this book from school's library, it's pretty cool.

Alright, so here is what I did tonight., I don't attach them yet cus I can't find the trim! So I'll probably do it tomorrow or someday?

There's the mask I made two weeks ago, it's not finished because I'm thinking of make a new one. It's not really strong and smooth as it should be. Well, it's my first plaster mask I've ever made  Grin

So I spent about $25...ish for the fabrics and trim. I can't remember what kind of fabrics are they but they look really nice and it's in sale! lol. Pretty much everything that day on sale, lucky me  Wink. hehe. I got 11 days to the banquet right now! better hurry!!! Thank you again, Penlowe and Alexus1325  Cheesy
7  CLOTHING / Costumes: Discussion and Questions / Medieval theme banquet dress? on: April 03, 2010 08:39:12 AM
Hi Grin I'm Tang. I have been sewing for like... umm 2-3 months and have done one little dress and couple of skirts. So... I got an invitation to Teen Banquet that's in Medieval theme and required mask. I tried to find some Simplicity pattern of the dress last night but only found one that I like and it is this is one. (Well, the Simplicity pattern is on sale for the last day today at Joann's  hehe)

Simplicity 4940 http://www.simplicity.com/p-2201-costumes.aspx

but then my host mom (Umm.. I'm an exchange student in the US ;] ) said that since I have this pattern > Simplicity 2757 http://www.simplicity.com/p-1702-costumes.aspx that I bought last time is probably works with the Medieval theme, but I want a sleeve like a 4940 one. So she said I don't need to buy that 4940 pattern that has a long skirt. (I like the B skirt on 2757 =] )

So...... the thing is, I never use a pattern to make anything before and I'm gonna add a sleeve to the 2757... Do you have any advise?

Oh... and since I am a beginner, I don't really know a lot of types of fabrics yet. I would like a not too fancy fabric that is kind of comftable to wear.  And the color too... First I think I could do the dress with some light weigh natural fabric in light beigh color. But since the skirt I want is kind of shapy so I think I need a little more heavy fabric that is comfty to wear.

I am sorry for my poor english and experience. I think I will upload the drawing of what I want to do pretty soon. Thank you very much   Cheesy

Oh.. and I got a month to do this so I think I can do it!!!!! Right?

Wait!!! for the mask! What kind of mask will go with the middle age clothes??? I can't really think of it at all!  Huh
