1  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / Trouble with logging into Pinterest? on: October 05, 2014 08:33:27 AM
Huh  My DDs got onto the computer a week ago while we were at work and they had off from school.  They uploaded some games and it messed up how the computer was running.  DH was able to fix the computer problems, but I've had problems with pinterest, as follows:

-I have my password and e-mail written down in my swap notebook.  Since pinterest didn't automatically recognize me when I clicked on it (before all the issues the girls created with the game uploads), I had to log in.  When I did, it kept on telling me that I had the wrong password or e-mail address.  After many tries to log in with what I know is the correct info, I reset my password.

-Today, I went onto Craftster and tried to pin something someone had posted.  It brought me to a completely new account!  It asked me to create new boards and everything!

-I panicked, so I tried to click onto my pinterest link from my Craftster profile.  The link worked, and brought me to my original boards.

What's going on?  Is anyone else having difficulty with pinterest?  If not, does anyone know what I can do to get my pinterest to link with Craftster so when I click on an image to pin, it goes to the right pinterest account (not my "new" one)?

I would appreciate any and all help I can get.  Thanks!
2  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Secret Santa swap, anyone? on: October 05, 2014 08:19:01 AM
We've had these in the past and I know of at least two people that would be interested in joining if another one started up.  I'm thinking signups would have to be soon if we were to do this to get it done before the holidays.

How it works is that you get a Craftster's info. and you stalk them and make a package for them.  Another Craftster gets your info. and stalks you and sends you a package.  Nobody says who they have until opening day!

Please let me know what size swap you think this should be in your replies.  I am thinking a large, medium, and small-but I know that may be a lot for people this time of year.

I don't know how to post links to previous swaps, but I used the 'advanced search' button to find past Secret Santa swaps.  Just type in 'Secret Santa swaps'.

I'd be willing to organize.

4  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / My Son's Blanket on: July 23, 2014 06:51:34 AM

This is a blanket that took me roughly two months to make.  It is for my son to celebrate his getting his own apartment.  I didn't mean to make it this big, but it is, and boy is it HEAVY!  I have to figure out how to get it to him, and he doesn't live close by and I would have to put it in a garbage bag to transport it!  Roll Eyes

Details of swap:

This swap is all about living (and crafting!) frugally.  Frugal living means something different to each person, but it may include saving money by using cloth napkins, knit/crocheted dishcloths, reusable shopping bags (you save 5 cents for each bag you bring in at my grocery store!), wool dryer balls (seriously, the dryer sheets can be pricey!), reusable menstrual pads or diva cup/moon cup bag and wet bags, soap savers, homemade laundry soap, homemade bath soaks, etc.  Or it may include recipes to try out instead of eating out, a piggy bank/other way of corralling change to take to the bank instead of letting it be eaten by the couch, having a coupon organizer ... the ideas are endless!  *There is a list of suggestions two posts down, to give you some ideas.*

For this swap, 95% of what you'll use to craft should be from your stash.  The more you use that you already have, the better!  If you absolutely must purchase something, it'd be great if you could get it at the Salvation Army/Goodwill/thrift stores or on sale.  (I don't want to say don't buy anything because I know how it feels to have everything you need except one little thing for a project.)

Crafting Requirements:

The crafting requirements for this swap is ONE MEDIUM AND ONE SMALL.  If you want to do more, please talk to your partner!  Remember, this is all about frugality so do not feel obligated or pressured into sending more than the requirements.  If your partner mentions spoiling and you can't or won't, be honest!  We're all here to get a handle on saving and becoming more financially in charge of our futures, so no one is going to look down their nose at you if you don't want to or can't send more than the requirements.  Really.  Pinky promise!

For those who need a refresher, here's the Craftster guide to what constitutes each size:

By Time

-Medium = 2 or more hours
-Small = 2 or less hours

By Size
-Medium = one single necklace or bracelet, a scarf
-Small = Earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks

By Price (though really, USE YOUR STASH!!!  The entire package should be less than a small!)
-Medium = $10-$30 dollars
-Small = $10 or less

Communication Requirements:

Checking in on the swap thread at least once a week is required so we know you're still around and crafting!  A quick note saying that you're still working is sufficient. If you have consistent (and recent) dings on feedback for poor communication or sending late, I may not approve your application.  I will also note communication in feedback!

If you want to participate, PM the following information to the organizer:  LadybugsAndBumblebees

Please fill out the questionnaire thoroughly!  If you're unsure of what you'd like to receive, check out the list below (two posts down).  It's hard to pair partners when I don't know what sorts of things you'd like to receive or what crafts you do!  Thank you so much!!!!

6  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Frugal Living Swap-round 6, anyone? on: July 10, 2014 05:53:16 AM
There was some interest in this under "make me a recycled bag" topic.  I got permission to organize this round of the Frugal Living swap.

I was thinking of having signups from July 20th to August 1st.  Partners out on August 2nd.  Crafting time of four weeks from August 3 to Sept. 7th with sendouts on September 8th.

Anybody in?

If so, any ideas for a catchy title like in the other rounds?

7  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Fun summer crafts! on: July 01, 2014 01:14:24 PM

This photo is of an Israeli lighthouse that my 10 yr. old DD made for school.  She used cardboard, rocks, and paint for the base and decoration.  The lighthouse is made out of a large Styrofoam cup and actually has a real working light at the top!  A translucent cup that was cut down a bit covers the light.  (The teacher had the children use dry erase markers to color the cup and now the color comes off every time someone touches the cup.  I would strongly suggest using something else to color your lighthouse, if you make one.)

The other item is a banana split!  DD made it last summer out of found craft materials from my craft room!  It was so popular that someone requested she make them one!   Grin
8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Father's Day / Very simple Father's Day gifts! on: June 15, 2014 07:09:42 AM

*Mods*  If this is in the wrong place, please move.  I'm new at this!  Smiley

This photo is what I gave to DH for Father's Day (today)!  It was inspired from something I saw from Pinterest (the chip sign idea).  My DDs and I ran with the idea for other items that DH would like.

The photo is not that good, so here's what's in the photo and what it says:

-"You're all that and a bag of chips!"--attached to a bag of Doritos
-"You're a nut!"--attached to a bag of trail mix
-"You bug me."--attached to a bag of gummy bugs (DH is an exterminator, so this is extra punny!  Grin)
-"Don't be a pain!"--attached to a package of Advil
-"You're so sweet!"--attached to a package of gum

It IS a simple set of gifts, but inexpensive if you are watching your pennies.  It's also VERY difficult to know what to buy DH, as there's not much he wants, so this was fun and easy!
9  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / DS's blanket for his new apt. on: June 12, 2014 05:41:32 PM

I'm so sorry for the blurry photo...this is the first photo that I've been able to successfully upload onto Craftster!  YEA!   Shocked Grin

This is an in-progress shot of the nautical themed blanket I'm making for DS for his new apt.  It's the only thing he wants crocheted.  Undecided
10  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Finishing a fat bottom bag-HELP! :( on: August 07, 2012 07:08:45 AM
Tongue  I just finished crocheting a fat bottom bag and lining it, as per the instructions in the Stitch and Bitch book and lining instructions on the internet.

My problem is now that I am done with all that, I'm not sure where to put the handles.  There is two long sides and two short sides.  I assumed that the handles were attached to the short sides, but then the bag is not shaped right (with the pleats in front and rounded sides.

Are the handles attached to the long sides and the bag shapes itself into the right shape as I go?

Thank you for your help!
