3621  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Owl Swap! Gallery on: July 26, 2011 06:16:24 AM
oops!  I forgot to mention one of the items smittenheart sent me that I LOVE and am reading right now!  It's a book by Kermit the Frog, titled 'Before You Leap:  A Frog's -Eye View of Life's Greatest Lessons'.  I love frogs, Kermit is the best, and I'm reading the book right now!  Grin  Thank you smittenheart!

As I said, I didn't look while he was doing it, but he told me to put my hand out, palm up, and sprayed something onto it, and said "This will help numb it."  (yeah, right).  Then he gave me the shot.  Never again.  Rather deal with the pain.

I have been crocheting since 8 PM and it's now 1 AM and yeah, it hurts, but the doc said it's okay.... Lips sealed

To be honest, I don't fear surgery.  It would probably end the problems in my hand.

I didn't watch the needle or him preparing it...my girls were with me...I couldn't afford to faint. Tongue

(In case anyone is wondering...the lasagne was DELICIOUS!) Wink

Well....the good news is that the hand specialist giggled and told me that yes, I can crochet.

The bad news is that I got a cortisone shot in the palm of my left hand....ewwwwww....the thought of it skeeved and scared me more than the shot itself!

He also predicted two more shots in my future (uhhhhh...NO!), 3x a week occupational therapy for a month (with the $30 co-pay each visit=$90 a week=not happening), and possibly surgery.

I am treating myself to a take-out lasagne dinner tonight, I think. Undecided

3627  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: Crochet Cramps on: July 25, 2011 09:53:54 AM
I had to put in my two cents on this subject, b/c I feel just like the person who posted this topic feels.  I LOVE to crochet (hurt my hand last Sunday and haven't been able to for a week and feeling withdrawal) and have a set of both plastic and metal hooks of all sizes, and have tried to crochet with a bamboo hook as well.  A metal hook works best for me.  Plastic does not glide thru the yarn as easily for me and seems to get caught more.  The bamboo hook just felt too big and odd in my hand.  My metal ones are my favorites.  When my hand cramps up (I am realizing now that I CAN'T crochet, just how much time I spent doing so!) I just would bend my fingers and wrist a few times and take a short break.

Thanks for the well wishes, everyone!  I see the hand specialist tomorrow afternoon.
3629  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Completed Projects / Re: My first successful garden on: July 24, 2011 05:09:09 PM
I am amazed!  Not only by your garden, but by your energy and your thoughfulness and creativity.  I only have three kids (and one is 17, so he takes care of himself) and I can't manage a garden a quarter of that size!  Also, the fact that your kid spilled some of the seeds and you thought to scoop them up and put them in a "mystery" garden says a lot about your mothering abilities!

(Those artichokes look delicious!)

ANYTHING would work to sit on in my craft area at this point.  Undecided  It's just finding the money to purchase one or "finding" one (as I did the desk).
