12  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / The Adventurer's Guild D&D Room!! *Very Pic Heavy* on: May 23, 2010 12:31:05 AM
My husband and I play D&D with our friends at least once a week if not more so. That being said we have been working on our perfect game room idea for years. About a month ago we started working on it, the first thing we did was the paint job. We wanted the walls to look like stone and I loooove the way it turned out but it took forever!!! Anyways enough of my talking, let us get to the pictures!

This is the view from the doorway! I forgot to get a picture of the dragon painting that hangs above the entry that says "Your Adventure Begins Here"

Right Corner View

Here you can see Chromo the Red Dragon's remains! We hung his wanted posted beneath him because we are all braggarts  Tongue His wanted poster tells the tales of his horrid reign over Duskveil Forest. Its okay though...we got him!

Close of up Chromo!

Our "animal" skin rug! You can't really tell but this rug is made out of fun fur, I got this on sale at the fabric store for .99 cents a yard! Cheapest rug ever.

Close up of the D&D Deity Tabards. I am new to sewing so I am SO proud of these. The green one is the sigil for Moradin and the blue one is for the Raven Queen (our respective favorite Deities).

The weapon chest! My husband's favorite part. The flail and shield I made, the shield ended up costing $0 and the Flail was $20! That makes it cooler to me somehow  Grin

This is the Shelf of Holding! You can see our potions and gems. Odd trinkets and magical items. The Wand of Ameatra and Samson the Slime

I loooove this wand. I found this really pretty twig at the park one day and decided I must make a wand. I just soaked the wood in water then twisted them together and bound with hemp rope. I let it bake in the sun for a few days then attached the pretty quartz wand I found in the dime basket at my local thrift store to the top and there ya have it!

Potions, trinkets, scrolls, and baubles. Everything we could need Smiley

We mounted an erasable dungeon map to corkboard and used industrial Velcro to adhere it to the wall. The DM corner comes complete with a comfy seat and a screen to scheme behind!

Close up of our game table. The wooden punch bowl is filled with dice/dice bags and of the three cups each one contains one of the following; pencils, erasers, pencil sharpener. Nothing can stop us now......lol

Thank you so much for taking the time to look! I hope you enjoy it <3

16  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Free Massages anyone?! on: May 07, 2010 10:30:16 PM
My best friend is just starting school to become a massage therapist. I wanted to show my support so here was my "Good Luck" gift! My husband and I actually made this at zero cost to us, but if you had to buy everything we used I would say this project would still be under $50 dollars! It ends up being about 6 1/2 feet long and will hold around 350 pounds. We went to our local Big Lots! and bought a heavy duty table months ago and ended up not using it, but we got ours for about $25 (it doesn't have to be pretty at all considering it will be covered) I started digging through my fabric bin and found some great upholstery fabric in this fuzzy blue grey color, very soft and warm figured it would be a great cover for our massage table! Then headed to my treasure room (also known a junk room but hey treasure sounds better!) for something to stuff it with, found a unopened pack of eggcrate foam bedcovers. BINGO! 3 hours, 25 nails, a bunch of staples later we had our table finished! Wash, Rinse, Repeat for the smaller table (I like this because you can move it support the head, or feet, or arms...whatever needs the attention! But it is no way a necessity) Feedback welcome! Enjoy!

Just the table (the blue thing was a afterthought, its for ankle, knee, or neck support)

annnnnd here is one with the table extender!

17  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: Reconstructed / From lame round table to battle ready Viking Shield! on: May 01, 2010 06:58:51 PM
My husband and I are huge DnD nerds, and right now we are turning our game room into the "Adventure's Guild Hall". We have seen lots of game rooms that look like dungeons and we are wanting to do something different. So far we have lots of potions and scrolls made. A "Monster chair" (We were thinking of him as a mimic chair from DnD Tongue) http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=337211.msg3900022#msg3900022 we are starting on wall decoration now, so we have been playing around with the idea of making weapons, taxidermy style monster heads, wanted posters, treasure maps etc. My husband has been wanting to make a shield forever so we started looking for a pretty wood to use when I literally stubbed my toe on this awesome Red Oak round table that was in a junk room in our house and it had seen better days.. Well, problem solved. So we started sanding it down! (I forgot to get a before picture of the table  Embarrassed

You can see my best friend's hands and his crazy long hair here lol My husband is the sander. We have no problem using our friends for hard labor!

This is the closest thing I remembered to get to a "before" picture, but as you can see from the middle part of the circle it was pretty beat up, and oh my goodness someone LOVED their Varnish! We sanded most of the first day that we worked on it. This ended up being a two day project.

We then spent countless hours with a roll of masking tape, trying to make the design, which considering how awesome I looked after sanding for 3 hours, I'm thankful the guys forgot the camera lol I couldn't find any stain that I liked so I made my own with some outdoor paint watered down then applied like a stain (applying then wiping it off) I did this with the brown and black but the green we really loved and ended up just painting it on. After everything was dry we took some antiqued brass furniture tacks to embellish the outside. I think i want something in the center but I haven't found it yet. So here is the our shield!

For the arm straps I found my husbands old belt that I took for crafting a few weeks back, because it was so ragged and cut one large enough for his forearm and another as a hand strap and my handy drill and I secured it into place with a couple of screws.

And here is my happy adventurer! He is ready for battle!!!! (I find him holding a shield in my very girly craft room funny Grin)
