1  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Father's Day / Crafty Sentimental Gift for First Father's day for a dad who Waited a LONG time! on: June 06, 2007 10:57:47 AM
Hey crafty peeps, I need your help.

My husband and I tried for 4 1/2 years for a baby and through the miracle of science, we were blessed with our wonderful daughter last July.

So this is my husband's first father's day and I want to make it special.  He LOVES LOVES LOVES this kid, she has him totally wrapped around her finger and he loves to flaunt his "daddy" status.  Plus he works his bootay off in a demanding job so that I can stay home with her.  He's a GREAT guy and I want him to know how much I appreciate him and love that he's her daddy.

I am a bit of a crafty beech, so it's only appropriate that I create something for him.  I sew LOTs and I love to scrapbook, but I always like to try new things.

He works really really hard, so he doesn't have many hobbies.  He likes TV, like Heros and Lost and shows like that.  He loves beer! He's very handy and loves to play with power tools when he gets the chance.  He likes to fish but doesn't get to much anymore, because I work on the weekends so he hangs with the kid.  He also likes to play poker but doesn't get to much anymore since it tends to be expensive and late at night.  His favorite hobby though is reading.....reading geeky books to be exact!  Starwars and Salvatore books are his favs.  He did mention that he'd like the new Gunslinger book from steven king....Oh, and he's a total math geek, like does math in his head for fun while he's driving.

So, the question then is......what should I do?!  I've got ideas for store bought gifts, but I'd really like to make him something sentimental.

Oh!  Two more things, his birthday is the DAY BEFORE father's day, lucky him.  And I tried to make him a "dad" ring from PMC at christmas......ummm m disaster!  Sad

Thanks in advance you guys.  I guess mommy brain has me feeling a bit uncreative.
2  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Discussion and Questions / Exposure issues and where to buy floodfill bulbs on: July 27, 2005 06:07:20 PM
So, i tried my first screen.  I used the speedball kit, with the diazo emulsion.  For my 12 x 18 screen, the directions said to use a 150 watt clear bulb at 12 inches for 1 hour 14 minutes.

I did just this.  But when I went to wash my screen it was almost impossible to do.  Plus, in the center of the screen, it looked like the emulsion had "cooked" on, complete with browning.

Help, what should I do?  Do I need to make adjustments?  I would like to use what I have in terms of the light bulb.

However, if I can't fix this, I'll go with the BBA No.1 photoflood, if only I could find them.....Does anyone have a suggestion?

Thanks for your help you crafty folks!!

3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Scarves (And check the GORGEOUS model) on: June 02, 2005 09:35:13 PM
So, my summer vacation has started and I've been a knitting fool.  Scarves are easy, so that's what I'm making.

Here are the two I've finished so far......

The beautiful model is my sweetie dog Lucy.  What a patient girl.  I think the pink looks especially good on her.

4  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Candy Leis....HELP! on: March 09, 2005 10:16:43 AM
Okay....So i've searched the web high and low and CANNOT find anything for it.

At a high school graduation a few years ago, we had a bunch of Tongan kids graduate.  Thier families brought the grads homemade "candy leis" a polynesian/hawaiian tradition.  These were awesome, with TONS of candy on them.  The candies were mostly hard candies with the wappers twisted on the ends.  Like the mints from resturants.

When I searched I found resources for boring leis, where you just tie the ends of the wrappers together.  This is NOT what I'm trying to do.  The leis I want to make are much fuller.  Almost like 4 candies on a "ring" and stacked.  That's the best way I can really explain it.

Does anyone 1.  Know what I'm gabbering on about and
                   2.  Know the best way to make them or
                   3.  better yet have made them in the past tell me how

Thanks for your help craftsters!!

5  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / dissolveable starch - where to find or how to make on: December 31, 2004 11:38:30 AM
Okay, being on winter break I get to watch WAY to much TV.  However, I just discovered my new favorite show:  Crafters Coast to Coast.

Today, they had a girl that made this SUPER cool doll.  http://www.hgtv.com/hgtv/cr_dolls/article/0,1789,HGTV_3242_3231422,00.html
I KNOW I can make it too and think it would be a great gift for my mom.  I just have one hitch.

Huh  What is dissolvable starch and where can I get my hands on some??    Huh

Its this plasticy looking fabric stuff.  She attaches this to an embriodery hoop and then sews on it.  Then she puts the creation, thread and starchy material into warm water.  The starchy stuff dissolves and you are left with this cool thready fabricy thing.
So I'm looking for the dissolveable starch material to buy or to make.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!  Thanks in advance.  You all are great crafty peeps!! Grin
6  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Italian Charms on: March 19, 2004 04:33:46 PM
I have gone and become obsessed with the Italian Charm Bracelets.  And, of course, the charms are not cheap, especially the custom and logo/trademark ones.

Therefore, I call up you clever craftsters to help me out.  I desperately want to make my own custom charms.  Check this out for reference:  http://cgi6.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewSellersOtherIte ms&userid=customcharm&include=0&since=-1&sort=3&rows=50  Just click on any of the auctions to see what I'm talking about.

So, how do you think I would go about doing this??  Thanks guys!!
