Nikimac is so fun to craft for!

I'm hoping to send out Monday, if for no other reason than to stop myself from making more!

24  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Stenciling: Completed Projects / my first freezer paper stencil- mama phish/ baby phish on: July 07, 2010 07:15:09 PM

My friend (pictured) is a HUGE Phish fan (phan?) and has been baking a baby girl for about 7 months. We wanted to give her something maternity but still fun, and this is what I came up with. The top, brighter sign has [mama] stenciled above it and the lower has [baby].

Though some of the colors didn't dry like I'd envisioned, I'm pretty proud of it. I don't know why I always decide to make things as hard as possible- a slightly confusing swirly stencil with several little bits and ten colors of paint. Phew.

On to the next big idea!

This post needs a warning label: Do not look directly at baby, sheer cute may lead to blurring of vision of blindness.

I love this- the look, the challenge, the print, the accessories!

That is so chic!

Also, you're pretty. I've always wanted red hair!
30  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: EEE I got a sewing machine! on: July 07, 2010 08:36:56 AM
I made myself wait to start after I had spotlessly cleaned my apartment! I'm in quite a few swaps now and I like to "organize" the supplies I'm going to use for each one in piles in my living room/on the back of the couch. I actually organized everything into plastic bins and cleaned, and sewing was the treat I gave myself if and only if I finished all that. It's hard for me to stick to the task at hand, particularly when organizing craft supplies, because I see something and get an idea and then there's a bigger mess than when I started to "clean".

So far I have mastered the art of the straight line on some scrap muslin and made a slightly haphazard cat bed/pillow. It took ages for me to even figure out how to thread the needle! I ended up doing it manually, that automatic needle threader thing is for the birds.

Tonight I'm going to work on controlling the fabric around curves, and cutting fabric for a plastic bag holder and a little item for one of my swap partners if I'm confident enough I can sew a simple item well enough to give to someone else.
