1  Texas / Texas: Central / Re: San Antonio peeps? on: July 05, 2011 02:20:09 PM
Hi all! I just got a new job and will be soon moving to San Antonio! Looking to network with other crafters. I do mostly jewelry and beadwork but I also sew, knit, crotchet, paint, and sculpt.

He's so cute! I know of at least a couple of people who'd love to have one of those. Awesome job!

5  REUSING/RECYCLING/RECRAFTING / What the heck can I do with THIS? / Re: Airbrushed Fabric...What to do? on: May 21, 2011 07:40:45 PM
Well, since posting this thread I've had a really good think about it and I decided that it would make a really great wall hanging. I think I'm going to make it the centerpiece of a quilt with other silk and velvet fabrics I have and hang it above my fireplace

Unfortunately, I don't work at the costume shop anymore. I've used Jaquard paints on cotton, spandex, nylon, and even silk with great results for color fastness. But those times I was brushing the painting directly onto the fabric, not airbrushing. Airbrushing is a lighter application of paint that doesn't impregnant the fabric deep enough. Because it's silk, some of the paint may have stained the deeper parts of the pile (remember it's crushed panne) but if washed, it may still fade. Hence my apprehension.

I painted this patch of fabric back with I was a craftperson/painter/dyer in a costume shop. It's 100% silk crushed panne that's been bonded with interface to hold it's shape. Then I airbrushed using Jaquard transparent fabric paints, layering up my colors like I was working with watercolors, then heat set the whole thing. I've just never washed it and I'm terrified that if the thing hits water all that work is gonna so out the window.  Finished dimensions of the image is about 12 x 14 inches.

???So knowing all that, what do all you wonderful crafty people think I should do with it? Tote? Pillow? Quilt? Frame it and use it as art? Any and all suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Huh

Thanks!

That's absolutely fantastic! Reminds me of when I was little, being terrified by the Oompa Loompas. I wouldn't have been scared if I had one of these.

CUTE! Now I want to make a ton of these in a variety of colors and give them to all the costumers I know! We all love cute/ugly plushies made into pin cushions.
