21  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Blythe A-line jumper dress made with puchicollective pattern on: July 13, 2011 07:25:02 PM
Clothing Item: A-line jumper dress
Pattern from: http://www.puchicollective.com/sewing-patterns/a-line-jumper/

My attempt at sewing:
FRONT

BACK

Review:
great instructions showing you which seam to sew first
with a lining I think it may be very difficult to turn right side out as the shoulder straps are quite narrow

Adaptations:
I decided to sew this dress out of a thick felt and therefore did not use a lining fabric
instead I cut away the seam allowances (except on the front pieces side seams)
I only used hand sewing on this dress, which was very unusual for me as I HATE hand sewing but I liked the effect of the embroidery floss stitched on the black felt

*** I will come back and review it for fit once I receive my doll, and add more pictures of her wearing the dress***

Review:
Quite easy to understand pattern and sewed fine, was a little difficult turning the dress right side out through the narrow shoulders.
And the finished side seams look a little untidy on the inside

Adaptations:
Maybe leave the bottom seams unhemmed until the sides are together then hem the outer separate from the lining, or tuck them together and hem over the top to encase the side seams between the outer and lining

I'm waiting for her to arrive Smiley

I couldn't afford a real Blythe Sad or infact justify spending that much money on a doll right now

so I got a clone Blybe on ebay which I'm planning on customising

she still needs a name

29  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Blythe hoodie using orriettacat pattern on: July 13, 2011 10:01:20 AM

My attempt at sewing:
FRONT

BACK

Step by Step Guide
I DID NOT WANT THIS HOODIE TO HAVE KITTY EARS SO I MADE A FEW CHANGES, THE ORIGINAL INSTRUCTIONS ARE NOT VERY CLEAR SO I HAVE MADE A PHOTO GUIDE
1) cut all pieces from fabric
2) sew the two back hoodie pieces together along the middle lines

3) sew the two front pieces together along the top seam

4) sew back hoodie pieces to front hoodie pieces

5) hem front of hoodie *in retrospect I would do this at the end*

6) decorate front and back of hoodie if required

7) hem sleeve cuffs, front and bottom of hoodie body pieces *in retrospect I would only hem the sleeve cuffs now, and hem the bottom and front edges of the hoodie at the end

8 ) sew hoodie front pieces to hoodie back pieces along shoulder seams

9) sew sleeves in place (this was very difficult)

10) sew hood to hoodie (they didnt match up Sad hood was too big so I added a couple of pleats in the back and then there were long pieces left over at the front of the hood)

11) sew along the side seams and sleeves

*in retrospect I would NOW sew the front and bottom hem lines*

Review:
The pattern does not include seam allowance so add your own
This pattern was difficult, the sleeves were hard to fit in place
The hood appears too big for the body, it does not match up at the side seams and there was extra fabric left at the front (does the hood maybe already have seam allowance? i don;t know - will have to wait til I can try it on my doll to see how it fits

Adaptations:
the original instructions were not very clear so I made my own
I used the extra fabric left over from the hood being too long to make an under chin strap

*** I will come back and review it for fit once I receive my doll, and add more pictures of her wearing it***

30  TOYS, DOLLS AND PLAYTHINGS / Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects / Blythe doll empire dress using puchicollective pattern on: July 13, 2011 09:43:35 AM
Clothing Item: Empire Dress
Pattern from: http://www.puchicollective.com/sewing-patterns/blythe-empire-dress/

My attempt at sewing:
FRONT

BACK

Review:
Good pattern, slighty tricky to match up the bodice to the gathered waistline making sure the arm holes are even

Adaptations:
none made

*** I will come back and review it for fit once I receive my doll, and add more pictures of her wearing it***
