1  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Re: Dumb/easy questions on: February 17, 2011 08:04:01 AM
okay I'll take a look at the site, thanks for the help. Smiley

so if a pattern said to use stockinette stitch, I could always substitute for garter? or is that a bad idea?

Just wondering what the difference is between garter & stockinette stitches...can they be used interchangably? Also, what's the difference between knitting and purling? Any help is good, helpful videos are even better  Smiley Thanks!

....this being said I have probably been doing garter stitch the whole time whilst thinking I have been doing Stockinette *FAIL*  Cry
5  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / wtf garter stitch?! on: April 13, 2010 07:22:23 AM
So I'm trying to knit a scarf for my friend, and the pattern says to use garter stitch. I've never used that method before (I'm used to stockinette) so I youtube'd it, and to me garter stitch just seems the same thing as stockinette....I honestly cannot distinguish the two .....any links or help is appreciated. Smiley

Also, on a side note, I bought some bigger needles, size 15 I think, and they just make MASSIVE gaps in the knitting....are they supposed to do that? The stitching is correct....it just makes a very thin scarf  Undecided

I've just bought some from Superstore, if you have those.
It was about $5.13 for Reynold's brand.
Cheaper than Safeway anyways Smiley

I've only been able to find it at my University bookstore, but they want $9.13 for a little bottle...I think it's Liquidtex brand or something...? But anyways, I'll keep an eye open for Delta Smiley

So I'm hearing that this fabric medium stuff you mix with your paint before you stencil a shirt is supposed to prevent the image from cracking later on....is there a specific brand of medium that works best? I haven't begun looking for any yet but I'd kinda like to know what it is exactly I'm looking for Tongue Also, what is the usual price range/bottle size that it comes in? Any help is welcome Smiley

I also live in Winnipeg, Manitoba, if that makes a difference at all.

BREAKING NEWS!!!

Haha okay, so today I was in the Village and dropped by Safeway, and voila!

The Safeway on Osbourne and River in Winnipeg carries Reynold's brand freezer paper...50' for $6.69. I imagine other Safeways carry it too, but I haven't checked yet.

I was looking for it too, and thusfar, this is the only place I've been able to find it.
Hope this helps you out Smiley
