11  IMAGE REPRODUCTION TECHNIQUES / Screen Printing: Discussion and Questions / Screen printing on felt on: July 07, 2006 11:35:39 AM
Typically do you all heat set when screen printing on felt?

I've done a few projects and heat set some but not others and I can't tell a difference, except that the ink looks light on the ones that I did heat set.

I believe I"m using acrylic felt, whatever the majority of craft stores carry, and am not sure if your supposed to iron it or not.

I know it's important when washing something, but how often (or could you even) wash felt?

Anyone?

EDIT: So i figured it out on my own, that heat setting works better. Just on a lower heat setting.

I love the fabric, it reminds me of an Amy Butler design.

Okay, since I figured out how to post pics I thought I'd add my polka dino bag that I also just finished

15  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions / Painting Wicker Furnature? on: June 10, 2006 08:25:07 AM
My mom gave me a lovely group of wicker furnature for my screened front porch, I love it but it's a bright white and I was thinking of painting it red or yellow to fit in better with the Morocan theme I want.

Like I mentioned my front porch is screened so I'm not too concerned with them getting wet, are there any special paints for wicker or special techniques anyone can suggest? Would regular spray paint work?

17  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Apprenticeship? on: April 11, 2006 09:23:46 AM
Lately I've been thinking that I would really like to hone my sewing skills beyond the basics, while trying to stay away from the "classes" they offer at the local fabric shops (I've taken a few of these and it seemed like a round a bout way to teach me things I already knew in a crowded "class" atmosphere.
There are a few small alteration/tailor shops in my town that I was thinking of approaching to ask for apprenticeship I guess you could say, basically exchanging their expertise for a small amount of money or my time around the shop. Has anyone ever tried this? What are the odds in my favor or is this just a pipe dream I cooked up while on break at my horrid job? Any advice, comments or suggestions are totally welcome.

18  CLOTHING / Clothing: Discussion and Questions / Appliques templates (sp?) on: March 23, 2006 09:57:31 AM
I was wondering if some people use templates when they're making appliques or would that be considered cheating. And if so where might be a good place to get some ideas?
19  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Dust covers? on: March 22, 2006 09:53:40 AM
Has anyone made a dust cover for their sewing machine?

I've only seen one many moons ago and it was made of plastic.
But I"m having trouble remembering exactly how it hung, and I can't find a clear pic of one anywhere. Would anyone know where I"d be able to find a pattern? Or at least a clear pic of one? and I could figure out the rest.
20  EUROPE / FRANCE / A little help with French on: March 13, 2006 07:40:18 AM
I'm working on a gift for a friend and am wanting to embroider her favorite saying in French which is: What do I know?

Could someone help me out with translating it? I know that Que is usually added in the beginning to form a question is a question mark needed at the end too?  Thank you so much!
