14  home-dyed, hand-beaded: a halter! in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by RaeAmazon on: April 10, 2005 04:08:16 PM
Hey, crafty people!  I was sitting around my house on Friday thinking about how badly I wanted a new summer top, so I bought Simplicity pattern #5016 (one of the "It's so easy it's Simplicity" variety.  I grabbed some white cotton (at least I think it is; it may be a bit of a blend) and stitched up the top, which is the first clothing item I've made from "scratch" for something like 6 months.  Then I headed to wal-mart for some RIT, in Golden Yellow and Sunshine Orange.  Dyed yellow first, then orange, dipping it deeper every 7 minutes or so.  I also dyed some extra fabric for the flowers I envisioned on the neck.  Made the flowers at work, beaded them, then attached them to the top!  Total time spent on cute summer halter/wearable art: 7 hours.  Whew!

15  two new patch-worky bags! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by RaeAmazon on: March 24, 2005 06:48:34 AM
Ok, this first one is made after a vintage bag I have which is made out of recycled kimonos.  I love the style, so I wanted to make one like it.  This was one of nikki-shell's presents in the recent 10 things swap!  Check out the gallery!  Good stuff!

Here's another one, but a tote.  Have I mentioned I'm in love with fabric?  Smiley  There are all kinds of good fabrics on this one!  Corduroy, upholstery fab, etc!

Yay bags!  Smiley

How excited was I to go out to the mailbox today and trip over a box leaned against my door?  VERY excited.  Smiley  So that box, obviously, was my 10 things from nikki-shell!  Yay!

Enjoy the pic goodness!

Everything!  Great pink bag that ties at the shoulder, a UK edition of Glamour magazine, just a few of my favorites of the awesome postcards she sent, 3 pairs of pearl and seed bead earrings, Trying to Save Piggy Sneed, by her favorite and mine, John Irving, 3 skeins of way cute sparkly yarn, incense and candles, toiletries, a little leopard-print zippered pouch, a cute cotton cuff with buttons, and an Asian brocade envelope bag, which has a tiny cute little porcelain (?) cat in it!

Here is the AWESOME set of glasses I got from Messily last night!  I came home from school and didn't even see them I was so tired (it was 11:00 PM).  So this morning my mom tells me I got a package yesterday.  I started my day off with a gift, and that's way better than ending the day with one!  Smiley

and some detail:

Thanks Messily!  I love them!  How did you know I adore simple hefty glasses like that?  And also that I love it when art meets function?  Smiley

18  prom dress (no one had the same one!!!) in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by RaeAmazon on: February 25, 2005 04:15:38 PM
I just thought I'd post my prom dress from 3 years ago; it is getting to be that time for juniors and seniors everywhere, and new ideas are always good, right?  Either way, this dress was a McCalls pattern (3315), and I had great results with it.  For inexplicable reasons, there was an extra piece for each side of the top which just didn't seem to fit, so my mother and I ditched those pieces and the top came out perfectly anyway.  Top and bottom are separate, the back laces up, and the skirt has box pleats.

this last one is for color alone

19  originally by Calvin, revamped by Cyndle in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by RaeAmazon on: February 24, 2005 02:20:01 PM
This started out as a basic knee length jean skirt, which fit kind of weird because of the slits on each side.  It's thrift, so I didn't feel too bad about chopping it up.  The only pain was that I kept having to cut it shorter and shorter (after I had stitched it, lots of careful seam-ripping) because it was just not flattering when the jean part was too long.  I left it unhemmed because it looked too funky for a hem.  Plus the skirt is huge and all pleated, so I didn't feel like hemming anyway.  You can't really see it, but the skirt is pleated; they resemble box pleats.  Forgive me for the lack of ironing.  Enjoy!

I LOVE batik!  Smiley  PS, It's not really dots, they're little squares of color. . .

20  Re: punk crochet wrist warmers in Crochet: Completed Projects by RaeAmazon on: January 26, 2005 01:01:51 PM
I really really like those.  I would be interested in a pattern too.  Pretty please Embarrassed...

No one on earth would love to give you a pattern more than I would, but I am a wing it type of girl; I barely EVER use patterns for anything more than ideas.  Here's something though:  The wrist parts are single crochet, I think I ch something like 30 and made a cylinder after doing 25 rows (which varies according to wrist size- mine are big- and how tight you want them), as if it was just going to be a really wide wristband.  After that, I did single crochet around and around starting at the cylinder, which for some reason ends up not looking like single crochet, because it kind of interlocks instead of being one stitch on top of another.  It also increases naturally without adding stitches; this is something I found just through doing it in what seemed the most logical way.  It's 10 rows of that, which gets you to the thumb, where I skipped 7 stitches, because I have big hands which= big thumbs, and just began to sc again for like 3 rows, and then I tied it off in the palm, because this is the least seen part of the things.

I'm including a pic of one I made with a lighter-colored yarn; hopefully this helps a little bit.  Who knows how much sense I made, since when I make things I fudge it!  Smiley
