I just wanted to tell you thank you for the grat idea, my hubby is a HUGE trekkie and it is hard to find star trek stuff that he doesn't have so I made him one for christmas and it turned out great! I can't wait to see his face in the morning.  I also cross stiched him the star trek logo as well, I will post pics after christmas so he doesn't find them on the camera before morning, lol.  Thank you once again for the great idea.

Thank you everyone for all the great ideas I have gotten not just for my daughters recycling kit, but for other gifts as well.I am almost finished with the recycling kit all that is left to do is put it all together and print out the coloring/info book I am making for her too.  I have also made purses from old jean pockets and a little bit larger ones from small jeans, I used 2T sized jeans from my daughter and neices purses.  I also have completed 4 reuseable shopping bags made from my hubbies old tshirts Smiley shhh he doesn't know thats where they went, lol.  and I made her a backpack from an old blanket that she REFUSED to give up despite the wear and tear the poor thing went tho.  I also made my hubby a really cute star trek stocking, as he is a HUGE trekkie.  I filled it wil sewing supplies since he enjoys sewing and is getting a machine for christmas (hope he open the machine before the stuff in the stocking or it will ruin the surprise, lol, I also included some homemade cookies for him and some other small items for him.  For my mother in law I made stepping stones for her garden with all the grandkids naames on them (should have done that months ago as it takes a while for them to dry).  For the rest of the family we made gift basket with a movie night theme so they could all have family night on us, so to speak.  The teachers gift we made alot of homemade goodies for them and added some candles and a small orament.  For my hubby my little one is make him a story book on her own, this is a big deal for her bc she is only 5 and has just learned to write stories so she is making books for the grandparents as well, at least that is the plan if they get finished today I am not sure, but if not then they will be late gifts from her.  She has also made a few oranments for the grandparents.  I also ccompleted 2 christmas wreaths for my mother in law and a silloutte of my daughter for daddy.  Wow looking over the list I now know why I am so tired today, lol.  Thanks again for all the great ideas.   Oh yeah I forgot I also did a cross stitch of the star trek logo for the hubby too.  Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all my fellow crafters Smiley

Thank you everyone for the great ideas I am sure my daughter will love them  Grin.

BUT....

I forgot teachers gift, she is only in preschool but there are 3 teachers in her class and I know that there days are stressful with 24 3-5 yr olds.  Here is the issue of of them can't have sweets, and I would feel bad take two of them baked goodies and not the other one.

I have no idea what to do for them and I am almost out of time to do it !Thursday is the last day of school until January 5th.  I would really like it to be something that my daughter can help with.  Any ideas?

I had to scrap the huge gummy bear idea for my stepfather and so now am wondering if you guys had any ideas for cute or funny ways to gift him a boatload of cashews and gummy bears? He loves cashews and gummy bears (they're one of the few sweets he likes) but every time he turns around the rest of the family (I'm guilty of cashew stealing I'll admit it!) has demolished his stock haha. So I want to buy a TON of the two things but I want it to be more special than "Here's a giant bag of snacks." Also, any suggestions on good places to buy these in bulk?

My dad has the same problem!!  My daughter and I came up with an idea that will keep his stash safe from the horde of granddaughters running around everywhere.  We took an old popcorn tin, one of the large ones that you can get a christmas with the 3 different kinds of popcorn in, and we went to the store and purchased 2 small locks and latches, and attached them to the can with a small screwdriver.  And then we filled it with all his favorite snacks and I sat it out with the grandkids to amke sure they couldn't find a way into it, lol.  After 2 days they gave up and "Pop's" snack and stash is once a again safe.  We also made him a special keychain with foam beads from the $ store that says Pop's stash, and attached the keys to it.  It took a little work but Pops is very very happy now that he has his own stash, lol.
6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / HELP-I need Ideas for a Recycling kit on: December 05, 2009 10:37:18 PM
This might seem like an odd question but my 5 yr old daughter is very much into recycling, going green, saving the earth, that sort of thing, and I have decided to make a recycling kit for her, but I need some more ideas as to what I can put in the kit for her.  This is something that she is VERY VERY serious about (she wants to take ONE paper cup to the recycling bins as soon as she is finished with it).  This is what I have planned so far:

I went to the dollar store and purchased 3 large canvas bags for her to put recyclables in-= paper, plastic, steel cans.  I made signs to attach to the bags so she knows what goes into each bag.  I am making her a "coloring" book of sorts on recycling and information about recycling and why it is important.  Then I am going to make her 2-3 reusable shopping bags (she hates the plastic ones from the store) to put it all in instead of using a box to wrap it in.  But I would like to add a few other things that I can make, or can be made from recycling other stuff to give to her.

Believe me I know this is a very odd gift for a 5 year old but when I asked her if she would like her own recycling kit she was THRILLED to the point of telling her whole preschool class about it, of course they all thought that she was nuts but that's kids for you, LOL.

If anyone has any other idea I would love to here from you.  I am at a lose.  Thanks!!
