11  MORE ART, LESS CRAFT / More Art, Less Craft: Completed Works / Re: Flower photos on: May 12, 2008 07:22:15 AM
Sorry for the late response, nicegoing! I've been out of town, so I didn't see your post. I have a Nikon D80, and my macro lens is a Nikkor 60mm, f2.8. I looooooooove it! I have so many plant and insect photos now... here's a bee one:

It's amazing to be able to get so close! I think I bought the lens used, and it really wasn't that expensive- Around $100 or $150, I think. I highly recommend it!

Thanks everyone for the positive comments! I love love love plant photos! & I'm really excited to get back to photography lately, after not taking any pictures for like 5 years. & I totally love my DSLR, after I said for so long that I didn't need one and that my film camera was better... it just makes it so much easier to take pictures, now that I don't have to worry as much about lighting conditions (because I can change the ISO and see right away if a picture is too dark/light), running out of film, paying to get it developed, etc... Plus it's so nice to be able to share my photos online and see everyone else's!
& since I'm posting, here are two more photos (I just organized all my plant photos, so I've been looking at them all for hours now!):

A cactus (duh!).
And nobody else seems to like this one as much as I do:

Can you tell I especially like Macro plant photos?!

So cute! I love the design, and it looks like you did a great job carving. I love it's little tusks and the blanket.

Here are some flower photos I took recently around my parents' house. I love this time of year (well I would if I hadn't moved to Chicago a few weeks ago... it's supposed to snow tomorrow! What?!)!
Please let me know what you think, and any suggestions you have for me!

These are 3 cherry blossoms (I think!) and 1 dandelion, in case you couldn't tell. Taken with a Nikon D80. My flickr page is here, if you want to see more photos I've taken!
15  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Back to Nature Swap (Send outs 31st May) on: April 25, 2008 11:16:48 AM
My partner seems perfect! Thanks for doing such a good job!
16  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: The Super Sea Swap! Sign ups 5th April- 15th, send out by 15th May on: April 25, 2008 11:14:48 AM
I hope everything works out for Sulkycat! I can't complain, since the extended deadline was the reason I was able to sign up!
& there is no "surface" shipping from the US anymore (that's the one by ship instead of air). They did away with it last year, so there's no cheap-o way to mail stuff abroad anymore. Bummer!! Anyhow, since it can take a few months for the package to get there, it probably wasn't good to mail swaps by surface mail anyhow.

I just sent in my info, since I saw the sign up was delayed, so I hope I'm not too late!
Here are my sea photos, since I was so inspired by the others on the thread!
A beach in Vietnam:

Mr. Seagull:

This is a black sand beach, made turquoise by the miracles of photoshop!

& don't forget the nice fish in the sea!:

Does anyone want to brainstorm things to make with me?! I need more ideas!
I was thinking of making some fish-themed jewelry, and some fishy placemats or potholders if my partner has a kitchen (my sewing skills definitely are kitchen-oriented!), and maybe some lovely driftwood sculptures (just kidding! I don't live near the sea, so you all are safe from my sculpting "talents"!!). What are you thinking of making?
18  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Baby Coin Quilt on: April 17, 2008 07:27:59 AM
I love how the white really sets off the other fabrics, and it's calm and... what's the word I'm looking for?! Elegant, sort of? I'm not sure that's right! But it's really pretty! I ahven't done any quilts with borders or any division between fabrics or blocks, but it looks so great that I really need to! The fabrics you picked go really well together, too. Nice job!
19  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: my first quilt... for my first baby! on: December 31, 2007 08:34:07 PM
I love the sun quilting design. The colors work nicely together, too, but the quilting is just fabulous!! Great job!
20  COOKING / Dessert / Re: Home Made Marshmallows! with recipe on: December 24, 2007 01:28:59 AM
The star ones are SO cute, but I an imagine they'd be a pain. Do they taste basically the same as the store marshmallows that you get in a bag? Is the consistency the same? Yours look... maybe a teeny bit denser than store-bought ones (in a good way!). Mint marshmallows sound delicious!! I've had a recipe forever, and never got around to making them... this reminds me that I need to try it out. I love marshmallows! Thanks for the inspiration!
