So. Awesome.  I lust.  I doubt I'll ever get one made myself, but oh, if I could barter or beg or buy or steal.

Or just... learn to quilt.  That too.

I made another one: the Bear's New Hat.

I also decided that pinterest would make a quick, easy way to provide a visual index of all my free embroidery patterns, so hey, here they all are with much less clicking required than navigating the blog category.

Now I've just got to keep drawing the ones I want to turn into commercial patterns. Smiley

I think sea creatures and organic shapes really lend themselves well to quilling what with all the spirals and all - I wonder what other shapes might work well?

OCTOPUS.

Octopus octopus octopus.

Octopus.

That is all.

If I had local stitchy friends, I'd totally put our own together.  Rent a cabin off somewhere, start out with a related-store-crawl, then move on up to the cabin and eat good food and stitch in front of a fire.  Maybe ask some friends who know more tricks than others for teaching sessions.

With wine.  Yes, wine.  Now all I need is the local stitchy friends.

Very cool! I've been wanting to do some anatomical embroidery for a while (if I ever finish enough of my current projects to start a new one).

18  COOKING / Dessert / Geek Sugar Cookies! on: November 22, 2011 08:02:46 AM

I made geek cookies!

Yes, those are Erlenmeyer flasks, beakers, and test tubes.  The set of cookie cutters includes an atom (well, in the symbolic sense), but I was making cookies for a pile of medical lab techs, and we're more about the test tubes.

I almost made them red, because we all handle tons of blood every day, but I figured no one would eat them.  Plus, if I got started down that road, I just know I wouldn't be able to resist making some that were pink and chunky from fat, or brown from hemolyzation, or green from... I don't know what, but I've seen 'em.  And down that road lies madness and grossness and other such things. So! Peaceful and calming blue it was.

My favorite cut-out sugar cookie recipe is this one from the Kitchn.  They cut out and transfer easily, hold their shapes fantastically through baking (no spreading), and are soft and delicious.  Plus, almond extract! Can't go wrong with almond extract.

I'm giving away a set of the Science Lab Cookie Cutters on my blog.

There's just something about the combination of cephalopods and hearts that gets to me. I love your octopus love onesie- I've yet to see anyone stitch that one up!
