my poppet clothes are coming along - I just need to make definitive choices. The great thing about keeping smallish scraps is you have a ton of variety for doll clothes - it's also the bad thing about hoarding scraps.

The thing I ordered didn't come in, so I need to decide how I'm going to make the thing.

So I had my parental units pick up my sewing machines to get them cleaned and tuned so I could sew like the wind on the weekend. I called my dad from work yesterday, and he told me the guy told him it would cost $200 to do both machines. I was freaking, as I only had $130 set aside for the machines based on what the guy told me originally. Dad tells me the guy said Miranda (my old 1960's beast) was worn out, and that Cheepie (the cheap plastic one) would never stay in time as the innards were all plastic. So my dad wheeled and dealed and bought me a new Janome utility model and an old school 1960 - 1970 machine. For less than $400.00. From his own allowance (as I call his walk-around money that my mom doles out to him). I'm so in love with them both. And now I can SEW LIKE THE WIND on the weekend!
5  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Re: Quilting Cotton for Apparel on: May 07, 2013 08:20:48 AM
I love using quilting cotton for sundresses - it's sturdy and breathes. If people really have a problem with it, they can buy me fabric to convince me otherwise.

so the sweet little poppet i'm making is one tough mudder. I've broken three needles so far, and I think I'm going to have to go buy a special doll-jointing needle, which should be astronomical, knowing this town. I suppose I could theoretically unstuff her, re stuff her, and rejoint her. But I had to make her face three times, and I'm just about ready to call for a grudge match against her. I'll leave her for a day and do her hair, and then we'll discuss the jointing thing again. Hair is always a ton of fun.

I adore the old-school rocking horse. My cousins and I had one that was passed around the family - you did such a great job

10  CRAFTSTER CRAFT CHALLENGES / CHALLENGE 86 ENTRIES / Labyrinth mask on: May 01, 2013 06:52:23 PM
So, for the Labyrinth swap round 5, I sent my partner BoomerBile a mask (if you've seen the movie, you of course can't forget the ballroom scene!) Although it was slightly damaged in transport, I was so pleased with this, and she was able to fix the tip of the beak that broke.

It started with a cheap dollar store gold mask, which I paper machied over, painted, feathered, and decorated.
