71  Re: Bookmark Swap Round 3 Gallery of Bibliophilic Love in The Swap Gallery by Myrdda on: September 15, 2010 06:51:23 PM
I came home from school in such a foul mood, coming in and directly complaining to the DH how people were stupid, and if I were as callow and immature as the kids just fresh at college as I saw today, I'd poke myself in the eye with a hot french fry .... and he pulls out the highly anticipated package from Willowe! I was so happy! My three year old started singing the 'we just got a letter' song from Blue's Clues, so I even had theme music. She wrote such a sweet letter, and I feel so completely spoiled! Sorry for the crappy pics, but I'll try to explain them and express how happy I am!  Grin

I do NOT own this book - but between my husband and I, we have all the rest. I love complete sets!

another sideways photo, but it is what it is today. This shows the very pretty fairy bookmark she purchased for me in the most amazingly cool book diary where I can write down the books I've read, my thoughts and impressions, and just to keep track of them - ALPHABETICALLY, even!

how cool are bookplates?!?! SO COOL! I'm having a big decision as to which books deserve the bookplates!

this is one of the very lovely bookmarks Willowe made for me - and I really like it! Purple is one of my favorite colors, and amethyst is one of my favorite stones. This really is so sweet and elegant, and I love the way it sits in the book!

and what, by the Seven Little Gods, is this?! a steampunk bookmark, which I Ell-Oh-Vee-EE so very very much!

and here it is hard at work holding my spot in Mansfeild Park, of which I am reading for the ninety-eighth time.

Willowe, you SPOILED me! Thank you so very very very much! I am truly so pleased, and so happy! You are the rockingest of all swappers!

"I graduated with so much ambition. I now work in a Co-op. I'm scared I'll still be there in 10/20/30 years time."

on the back: "This is a photo of my graduation. I am somewhere on it ... "

77  first book ever made - and it is EPIC! (and has lots of pics) in Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General by Myrdda on: July 31, 2010 08:41:33 PM
this is probably for an xmas present (i have to do as much crafting as i can in the summer, as come fall i'm in school full time). I really like it, though. A lot.  But I like to give gifts that pwn, so it's a tossup.

this is blurry, but the camera doesn't really like after sundown in the basement.

it's a cookbook - and the title cracks me up. Cause that's how I roll. Roll Eyes

I put in almost a hundred recipes, named after WoW food/recipes, but consisting of recipes i got off the net or out of my home cookbook.

SPICY! just a sample of a recipe.

Even if no one loves the geekiness of this as much as me, I really do think it's cool. Smiley

78  Revamped Hair Sticks - picture heavy in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by Myrdda on: July 29, 2010 08:59:26 AM
Many moons ago, I bought metal hair sticks with little plastic flowers on the top. Eventually, the plastic cracked and fell out of the metal petal shapes, and got bent all out of shape as well. I love hair sticks, as my hair is very thick and long and won't stay up in a bun without them .... so while watching t.v. one night, I created a beaded cluster on top of each - and I LOVE them now. So, here is the before:

and here are the afters:

I realize the colors are washed out, but that's because I was too impatient to wait until morning to take pictures of them.

79  Re: Illustrate My Favorite Story Swap Round 2 Gallery! in The Swap Gallery by Myrdda on: June 02, 2010 01:35:16 PM
I just received today, and absolutely LOVE the page! I DO NOT love the fact my mail carrier is illiterate and bent the envelope - so I called and talked to a supervisor and rained all over his day (politely, because it's not his fault) and because it all rolls downhill, I expect the mail carrier to cry. That said, here is the page!  Here's the poem, Ode of Mulan:

Ode of Mulan

Anonymous (c.5 A.D.)
Form: yueh-fu

Tsiek tsiek and again tsiek tsiek,
    Mu-lan weaves, facing the door.
You don't hear the shuttle's sound,
    You only hear Daughter's sighs.
They ask Daughter who's in her heart,
They ask Daughter who's on her mind.
"No one is on Daughter's heart,
No one is on Daughter's mind.
Last night I saw the draft posters,
The Khan is calling many troops,
The army list is in twelve scrolls,
On every scroll there's Father's name.
    Father has no grown-up son,
    Mu-lan has no elder brother.
I want to buy a saddle and horse,
And serve in the army in Father's place."

In the East Market she buys a spirited horse,
In the West Market she buys a saddle,
In the South Market she buys a bridle,
In the North Market she buys a long whip.
At dawn she takes leave of Father and Mother,
In the evening camps on the Yellow River's bank.
She doesn't hear the sound of Father and Mother calling,
She only hears the Yellow River's flowing water cry tsien tsien.

At dawn she takes leave of the Yellow River,
In the evening she arrives at Black Mountain.
She doesn't hear the sound of Father and Mother calling,
She only hears Mount Yen's nomad horses cry tsiu tsiu.
She goes ten thousand miles on the business of war,
She crosses passes and mountains like flying.
Northern gusts carry the rattle of army pots,
Chilly light shines on iron armor.
Generals die in a hundred battles,
Stout soldiers return after ten years.

On her return she sees the Son of Heaven,
The Son of Heaven sits in the Splendid Hall.
He gives out promotions in twelve ranks
And prizes of a hundred thousand and more.
The Khan asks her what she desires.
"Mu-lan has no use for a minister's post.
I wish to ride a swift mount
To take me back to my home."

When Father and Mother hear Daughter is coming
They go outside the wall to meet her, leaning on each other.
When Elder Sister hears Younger Sister is coming
She fixes her rouge, facing the door.
When Little Brother hears Elder Sister is coming
He whets the knife, quick quick, for pig and sheep.
"I open the door to my east chamber,
I sit on my couch in the west room,
I take off my wartime gown
And put on my old-time clothes."
Facing the window she fixes her cloudlike hair,
Hanging up a mirror she dabs on yellow flower powder
She goes out the door and sees her comrades.
Her comrades are all amazed and perplexed.
    Traveling together for twelve years
    They didn't know Mu-lan was a girl.
"The he-hare's feet go hop and skip,
The she-hare's eyes are muddled and fuddled.
Two hares running side by side close to the ground,
How can they tell if I am he or she?"

From:The Flowering Plum and the Palace Lady: Interpretations of Chinese Poetry
By Han H. Frankel, Yale University Press, 1976.

If anyone knows how I can get rid of that huge crease in the paper, please let me know!

80  reversible tote! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by Myrdda on: March 26, 2010 06:44:28 AM
I am so happy with this (even though the blue looks more robin-egg color in person). I made this in a few hours using gloriana's tutorial for the reversible tote. And, now I'm making a second one for a friend who thought it rocked. This tote is what studying finance looks like! Roll Eyes
