11  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing Machines: Discussion and Questions / do i take my sewing machine WITH me? on: May 03, 2005 02:17:59 PM
okay. so i'm moving half a country away to quebec city for the summer. I got a swanky intern job in a museum, yayy!

i'm making a list of what to pack and i seriously realized that if i don't sew at least once a week i will go INSANE.

..but is it insane to take my sewing machine with me? like, will i really use it? i just see myself hitting up some awesome thrift shop and finding the coolest thing that needs a little editing or something and i'll be stuck with a needle and thread.

??
my friends, parental unit and other assorted hangers on think i'm crazy. i think i'm prefectly sane, thankyouverymuch.
i leave the question to you all!

12  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Re: crochet wrap! drool! on: March 28, 2005 10:25:08 PM
yeah, knitting is not something I can do - i don't have any experience or anyone grandmotherly to teach me! I think crocheting is somewhat easier, anyways? I hope someone can figure out how to covert this wrap to crochet...I'm in love with it, but I'm almost thinking myabe I should go to Value Village, buy three sweaters of the same colour and weight, and just sew them together.

it'd be easier. but not nearly as cool.

hum.

i saw this incredible wrap thing today:
http://www.rebecca-online.com/en/anleit/heft_12_anl_17.pdf
and it's, like, my dream shirt wrap thing. but not in pink, maybe in brown or rusty-orangy-red or something...

anyways. I just started crocheting in the last few days and a) i think this is a knitting pattern anyways b) i don't know much about crocheting or knitting...

but i wanna make it! any suggestions? how hard could this be? (i'm imagining myself eating my words)
any suggestions? is there a crochet pattern out there like this? i actually think it's just a very long and narrow rectangle with sleeves sewn in. is this hard to make?

help!
thanks!
vikki!

20  CANADA / Alberta / Alternative Craft Fair/Sale/show/Hoo-ha in Edmonton on: March 11, 2005 03:50:30 PM
Hey kids,

So I'm sitting here thinking: "I'm crafty. They're crafty. We all make crafty things."....and sometimes we don't really make many, or to sell them, or we're not sure about thier sale-ability....or whatever - maybe you just want to show off!

I say we all get together and have a show/sale/fair whatever, somewhere in edmonton, and support local craft. If you paint on skateboards, make necklaces, handbags, journals, dog food bowls whatever, whatever, whatever - as long as it's alternative - this could be the place to show it off.

What do you all think? Would you be interested? Does something like this exist already?
