This was for my daughters 3rd birthday. She wanted a mermaid/under the sea party! The cake was fondant covered with vegan "buttercream" and a butter cake, the mermaid and octopus were also fondant. Cupcakes were vegan vanilla with vegan "buttercream" with fondant octopi. :-)

Have you ever looked into using a walking foot for your machine? It makes working with slippery and sucky fabrics to sew easier to work with! :-) They are a great investment! :-)

These are sooo waaay cute!  Are their tails made of snuggle/cuddle flannel?  If so, did you get it at JoAnne's Fabric? 

Yes they are made of the snuggle flannel from Joann's, the bodice is also that flannel! :-)

I prefer to think of it as a temporary lapse of insanity, hahaha. There will  be more children, but I made the executive decision of if your under the age of 1, you don't  get a doll. That would have added 8 more dolls, and I wasn't down with that!

HAHAHAHA that is what happens when you run out of skin colored fabric and can't BARE to go to the store ONE MORE TIME to get skin colored fabric and have the lady say I told you so about not buying enough fabric (I like him too. :-) )

I love that the boys have eye patches! Are they pirate mermen?

They are totally mermen. I was trying to make them boyish. My daughter isn't sold on the fact that boys can have dolls, so I tried to make them "tough", hahaha.

They are so cute.  Did you make the pattern?  You have such a lucky daughter.

I did not, it is a Bit of Whimsy pattern. (Forgot to add that, ooops).

My daughter requested that for her birthday I make her friends mermaid dolls as favors. I am a pushover so here they are! :-)

I still have to make her "special" one, but I don't want to see another mermaid for a VERY long time. Made using a Bit of Whimsy pattern!
