3  Re: Necktie Skirt!! (Pics + Tutorial) in Clothing: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by SouleMama on: April 18, 2005 02:07:24 PM
Hey guys! I had to jump in here--I was so thrilled to see this thread and all your awesome tie skirts!

I made one of these in high school (um, 1990, I think it was) after seeing one in Sassy  Magazine (oh, I miss Sassy!). I raided my fathers and grandfathers' closets for funky ties and came up with this. I dug around my attic this weekend looking for it to post, and can't believe it actually still fits (okay, not really....but alteast enough for a photo!). Thanks for letting me share it!

I finally finished my bunny! Amobabe, thanks so much for your help with that part I was stuck on. I thought it was a fun pattern to work on... (it better be, 'cause I've committed myself to making one more by Easter for my little one!).

5  Vintage Linen Dishtowel into a Handbag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by SouleMama on: March 05, 2005 08:02:41 PM
I just finished this handbag today, and I'm in love with it! It was a vintage linen dishtowel that I cut up for the outer bag, lined it with a thick cotton, and used heavyweight interfacing to make it extra sturdy. I'm going to dig around the house and hope I can find similar old linen to make another one!

Here it is:

Thanks for letting me share it here!

I think I'm in love with the sweater in Rebecca 28. (Thanks, Dolly Llama). I just ordered the magazine (why are tne new English Rebecca's so hard to find at the LYS??!!!), and can't wait to get started! Here's the pic:

Thanks for all your recommendations--there really are some great patterns out there in this style...

7  Pattern for Cropped Cardigan? in Knitting: Discussion and Questions by SouleMama on: March 02, 2005 05:42:43 PM
Has anyone seen a pattern for anything like this? They (www.babystyle.com) call it an Ultra Cropped Cardigan.

I love it! And simply must have it for my springtime pregnant belly. Hee Hee! I'm thinking about trying to wing the pattern myself, but it would be the first "big" project I've done that for, so I'd much rather find something close and alter it, you know?

Thanks in advance if anyone has seen a pattern like it! (And apologies, of course, if it's already posted right UNDER MY NOSE!)

8  Papier Mache Puppets in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by SouleMama on: March 02, 2005 09:36:19 AM
I made these puppets a few months ago for my four year old, and I got totally addicted to creating them--it was such a fun process! I used papier mache (made clay molds for the shapes) for the heads, and gesso and guache for the paint, wool for the hair, and sewed clothing, then glued the clothing to the head/neck. They're all based on characters from books, or people that my son requested....

Here they are...thanks for letting me share them!

9  Debbie Bliss Kids Sweater in Knitting: Completed Projects by SouleMama on: February 25, 2005 12:12:06 PM
The pattern is from Debbie Bliss' Easy Knits (which I must say, has anything but EASY patterns in it). I knit it with Lambs Pride since it was on sale at my lys. I love the finished product, though I'm not really a huge fan of her patterns (what's up with all those damn small needles?). I do love the raglan sleeves, and the collar, and the pockets on the front are adorable!
Here it is on my four year old, who as you can tell from the photos, HATES the sweater. Great.

10  Re: Amy Butler Bags in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by SouleMama on: February 04, 2005 08:00:33 AM
I just finished the InTown bag pattern, and really like it! It still needs some kind of a clasp--I'm looking for some ribbon to match some cool vintage buttons I found. I got the fabric (from the ginger bliss line) at fabric.com. I did change the pattern a bit by adding heavyweight interfacting--I'm glad I did, I think it would have been to "floppy" without.
