1  Florida / Florida: South / Miami crafty or thrift stores? on: February 27, 2005 11:56:52 AM
I'm going to be visiting Miami next week and I was wondering if anyone knew of any good crafty or thrift stores in the Miami area.  Yarn shops would be great also!

I'd rather go by some local recommendations than wander into whatever I find  Wink

Thanks!
2  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Napoleon Dynamite Bday Card on: February 26, 2005 11:35:12 AM
For a friend's birthday, I decided to make him a Napoleon Dynamite card.  It didn't take any great skill or effort--just paint shop pro's pre-set shapes  Wink

I asked him to scan it and it didn't turn out so nice, but you get the idea.  Inside it says "do whatever you feel like you wanna do--GOSH!"

3  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / artistic collage on: February 25, 2005 11:56:07 PM
Tonight I was able to let loose and create a collage   Wink

I popped in the beauful french film Amelie, dug into my craft bag, and started cutting & pasting.   I am pleased with the result, which is a rare occurence for me since I'm a bit of a perfectionist Roll Eyes

When all was said and done, I glued a scrap into my paper journal for a quick visual journal entry, which is posted below my collage.

4  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / Funtional Hat on: January 08, 2005 11:17:41 PM
It would probably make more sense to post this on another thread, but I figured those who crochet would get a bigger kick out of it  Wink

I put together this hat as a project for my design class; I'm not quite nerdy enough to do something like this just for fun, hehe.  The assignment was to create a hat that serves a funtion of some sort, and my instructor suggested that we base it on one of our interests.  Naturally, the idea to create a hat to hold my crocheting supplies popped into my head right away.

The base is made from paper mache...basically I just made two bowls, glued them together, and painted them.  I crocheted a little band to cover up the middle where they are glued together and I crocheted a chin strap to keep it on my head (which is mostly hidden under the hat).   I drilled holes through the paper mache to hold my hooks and to pull a yarn end through so I can crochet while I'm wearing it, though I might look a little silly.

I received an A on it and he held onto it for a student art show at the end of the year  Smiley
