Your messenger bag and backpack are great Hax! What material is the backpack out of? Looks like the vinyl stuff, which I have neer had the nerve to sew with. Both are awesome. Love the backpacks print!

Thanks!  The backpack is a laminated cotten.  First time working with it..wasn't too bad, but had to use my walking foot attachment since it's a bit "sticky" I guess like faux leather/leather so the walking foot worked well.

All the recent bags posted are so great.. so creative..handpainted, customized, crochet.. talented ladies!

Here are a couple recent ones of mine

A messenger bag from a pattern I was testing for a blogger, Charmed Liebling

A backpack based on a pattern from ChrisW Designs (her Evelyn bag was popular here I think).  I modifed it to suit my son's needs

How did you do those handles? Do they require a special tool? I really want one of the tools that puts the snaps and rivets on. I am going to havet to add whatever you did there to my list of wants!  Wink
I like the style and that blue fabric. Very pretty. I would have never guessed you made it. Looks professional!

Sorry been awol for a bit.. no tools, the each handle is two pieces a bag and front with prongs that bend on one piece and a groove on the other piece of the bent prongs. So you just cut a hole a tiny bit bigger than the handle hole and install the handle.. I'm trying to recall where I bought them but it was a long time ago..

Finally got around to doing another bag.. I used a retired pattern from Michelle patterns but changed a few thngs and assembled it my own way.. had a few issues.  The pattern doesn't call for the metal eyelet handle but I had some so wanted to use it..

Haven't checked in for a while, so will have to go catch up on other's bags.

Awesome! love the colour.. I saw a similiar bag at JC Penny!

i have the tutorial pinned, such a clean, crisp looking bag.

When using vinyl/faux leather I used binder clips.

Here's a small crossbody I made.

The front and back has a full width pocket that turns into the strap.  It's slightly more complicated than a lined zipper pouch.

Tutorial for it is on the Sew, Mama, Sew blog. http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/2013/04/cross-body-shoulder-bag-tutorial/

Probably no more bags for me till June.. but my next bag I want to make a backpack for my son..I have some laminated cotton on order for it. First time I'll be working with that..

Glamis love your bags! I responded to your other post.. but here's some ideas for zipper

For the zipper - I like following Noodleheads open wide zipper method.  http://www.noodle-head.com/2012/06/open-wide-zippered-pouch-diy-tutorial.html

if you don't like the tail, you can turn the ends.. I found this for some tips  http://projectsbyjane.blogspot.com/2010/11/this-is-how-i-sew-my-zip-pouch.html

hey everyone.. hope everyone is enjoying their bag making.  i finished a small crossbody, but still need to take photos.  I'm writing a tutorial for it that will be on the sew mama sew blog next week. Will post pics as soon as I can.

Also for people that were interested in the tubular frame bag I tested earlier, the lady released the pattern and has a giveaway for it. http://sewfearless.com/

I might have to take a break from bag making as my son's birthday is coming up and need to do some stuff for that. I have a few bags in mind though.. a backpack possibly

Happy sewing
