31  Craft Swaps / ACTIVE SWAPS WHERE SIGN-UP PERIOD HAS CLOSED / Re: Quilt Block Swap Round 7 (Sign Ups through June 30; Sendouts August 31) on: July 07, 2015 01:06:11 PM
I wouldn't join band because my partners wouldn't let me play drums. They tried to pawn a flute off on me instead. A flute!! What were they thinking?  Cheesy

Probably "what would cause the least amount of anarchy and chaos"? Smiley

I've cut out and drawn guidelines on all pieces for the maple leaves, so I'm ready to start sewing. It was novelty rainbow-colored background fabrics with tivoli checkered leaves right? >_>

So. I have one craft store to hit today and I finish the July hop. 15 stores in four days. (8on Saturday alone  Roll Eyes ) then I will go home and clean my sewing room.

I may have a fat quarter problem tho. I've only bought 5.5m off the bolt. But I have 183 fq's.

I'm still under budget too. :/ I have no idea how that happened.

I'm not jelly, pfft, me, nooo >_>

I've actually heard of that being done for friction, so the templates would lie still! So she may have gone out and actually bought her own Wink

I love that coffee print--I collect those, so if you ever want to do a private swap for anything coffee related, I am your gal! Grin

I'll most likely look through my stash and see what I can do Cheesy I don't have loads of the coffee print, and I got it at the faire so I can't get more. I'd be more than willing to send you some, it just won't be that much because I don't have that much Smiley

Do you guys have Asian prints there?  Just curious.

...actually, now that I think about it, yes we DO have loads and loads of asian prints. What I was thinking about when I said no was "authentic japanese prints" or authentic looking prints <-- those are more rare, but I have a few (two actually japanese, three more authentic looking) because most imports are from the US, probably some germany or UK as well? But you get your east asian symbols and fans and sushi fabrics and such american-style japanese prints Smiley More classic style like plain colored dragonfly prints or simplistic sakura prints are the more rare ones.

I love the blocks aimr! I adore those tiny squares, I might pull that on this swap sometime - the swap is the best way to not have to make too many of the same block yourself Cheesy

:-) Glad to hear I am not shunned from future swaps!

Of course not, we love having you here Cheesy You're one of us now, and may never be able to stop the swaps! Wink
*suddenly gets very self-conscious about claiming self to be "one of us" and goes hides under the fabric pile*

Lol, oh don't worry, I'm just a whiner, I enjoy getting exasperated about small things, and I exaggerate a lot Cheesy And I'm big on the whole wall-of-text thing Wink I'm loving your selection, that's why I'm doing it first!

But yeah, everything is expensive here. We're big on import. So imagine everything you have that's from your country... buy it, ship it overseas, rent storage space, sell it on to a store, who also have to have storage space, a store front, and staffing.. and you have all the steps adding cost to things, and still everything else sort of matches the price level as the imported goods, so.. just everything gets more expensive. Smiley But it's nice here, it's pretty calm, and you've got a "free" public health care system, tuition-free college, etc etc. I'm overall pretty satisfied Smiley

I'm actually pretty weird for not having a car, but I live in the concrete suburbs (concrete-building condo area connected by subway) and work downtown, so I rarely NEED a car, and I only have an outdoor rented parking lot without electricity at a quarter's kilometer from my building. Anyone with a house or kids or just living slightly further out than I do has a car. But cars are expensive. >_> And so is gas! A bit over $6 per gallon. And we're saving up for a house at reasonable commuting distance. Cheesy And I prefer spending all my money on fabric Grin This swap keeps being my best excuse to go shopping, and lets me overdo my purchasing at the craft faire "because I might NEED this sometime in the future"!

I've cut all my nine patch bits now, and I'm very happy about it! I'm enjoying myself craft wise too, not just the whining parts Wink I've never done a 9 patch, in spite of really liking them.

Lol, thanks guys Cheesy I have a decent stash myself, but I always have to keep an eye out for "what I might need in future swaps" at the craft fair. It's on twice per year, and I've gone every time for the past twelve years. It's really the best thing. If you come here, you might want to come for that, even though the weather will be DREADFUL at that time of year Wink Tons of stores from all around the country all gather in one place, and I always overspend, even not counting the $15 visitor's fee. Roll Eyes Even the web-only stores come there and sell stuff - which covers most of the quilt stores. Batiques are fairly rare still, but there was ONE batique-specialized shop last time I was there, so I bought ten FQs from them. Asian prints are really rare too, but they have upswings now and then. I think I spotted maybe ten different asian prints last time, but that's across the maybe 10-15 different quilt stores that come there. There are also usually about 5-10 bead stores, one or two scrapbook-related stores, maybe 10 yarn shops, 4 embroidery stores, and your more unique stores like Canvas mixed media art, or Frgkraft fabric dyes. The entire hall is still only like a decent sized Joann's, but they cram in a lot of stuff! And workshops Smiley

Once upon a time, when knitting had it's huge upswing into modernity, we had knitting heaven in Stockholm - I could easily get around ten stores by sparing use of the subway. But then interest petered out a little, and the economy took a turn for the worse, and now we have maybe four reasonable ones left, of which only one is really a good yarn-interest store. But quilting has just never been a big thing here. I did find a pretty good store when looking for backing for the quilt I actually finished from this swap, but pretty good means they have like THREE whole slim shelves in a back room. Cheesy Most of it is novelty or white.

The lower right in the first picture is the same as the lower left in the second picture - it's just very washed out by the camera not handling the darkness of the others very well without going overboard with the white balance.

What it turns out I AM good with (and our stores) is blue colors though, I've counted that I need 24 squares for the 9 patch, and if I were to include turquoise I could probably get unique squares through all blocks Cheesy Some of them are a bit too warm though, so I'm settling in for a nice 12 different fabrics, so I can cut two at a time.
