21  HOME SWEET HOME / Pet-Related Crafts: Discussion and Questions / Re: Tips for keeping ants out of pet food bowls? on: July 17, 2006 06:50:57 PM
Put her bowl in a little bit larger bowl or container filled with water.  It'll bobble around a little, so don't put it in anything too much bigger.

this works for me too.. the ants get disoriented. Of course one of my critters likes to put the food on the floor and then eat it...!!  Undecided

You have to keep them above 40d or they die. You have to either heat the bin with a heating coil or keep it in a warmer place (inside?)

As I'm sure your neighbour will point out, you just need to add an "s" to make the plural and your box will be grammatically correct as well as beautiful!

Shocked Someone on my livejournal blog told me the SAME THING!!  Undecided

It'll have to wait until next year, I just put it up. Darn you Babelfish!!!!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the bowling balls.. I also like the window propped up by the railing. I think it looks fantastic.

I hope I spelled it right. I don't speak french.

I repainted and touched up my a bathouse I made last year.. and decided to use my handy woodburining tool to dress it up a little. I didn't get any tenants last year (the spot was shadier than I thought.. I put it up in the early spring before the leaves grew in  Undecided ) so I though that I'd put it in a warmer/sunnier spot, and label it in case there was any doubt in the bat's mind as to whether it's a bat house or not haha.

I was going to write Le Bar Bat and draw a martini glass on it (it was then name of a nightclub in NYC back in the 90s) but I thought this was a little cuter, and my neighbor is a French woman in her 70s.. I figured she'd get a kick out of it! I was going to ask her how to spell it but I want it to be a surprise! (it faces in the direction of her house, and she's been asking if anyone's moved in.. she loves nature)

Fingers and wings crossed that someone moves in.. they're all in the barn right now, and we'll be getting a new roof put in next year or the year after, so everyone needs to relocate, at least temporarily...

He was flying like a bat out of hell haha.
LOL!  Cheesy They're hard to find during the day, they tuck into the smallest places...

There's a lot of great info on the web about bats on a site called Bat Conservation (http://www.batcon.org/)... I'm trying to get some bats to relocate out of our barn, because we're going to be fixing the roof in the next few years. I don't want the critters to be disturbed with all that work going on...

Very Cool!!

I never would have thought of a squirrel house.  I WANT a bat house, but the BF has vetoed the idea..sigh

I'm just retouching my bat house... I'll have to post photos. We didn't get any takers last year (I guess they prefer our barn) so I'm going to try it in a different spot this year.

Bats are great, they eat mosquitos. Fantastic little critters.

I'm so sorry for your loss.
30  HOME SWEET HOME / Exterior Decorating / Yard Art / Gardening: Discussion and Questions / Re: Ever Built a Trellis? on: May 14, 2006 09:50:17 AM

I will finally admit ignorance and ask: just what is rebar?

Rebar is  a steel reinforcing bar, you can find it in Hone Depot/Lowes/hardware store by the cement.

I didn't know what it was until I met my husband, who was building a retaining wall out of cement.

The trellis  in the photos is beautiful!
