23  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Re: Button / Badge / Pin Makers on: March 16, 2007 10:03:23 AM
I got my 1 1/4 inch button maker from badge-a-minit the other day.
So far, I'm pretty satisfied with it.

Although when I tried to make my first button, I couldn't separate these 2 rings that were supposed to go together and then come apart to be used separately in a later step.

I figured that some tinkering would be required and I probably would lose some buttons on my first few tries. But in the end, I think I've got it.

The only complaint that I have is that the button maker didn't come with 1 1/4 inch button making instructions. Not that I had problems reading the 2 1/4 inch button making instructions. But when I emailed the company (I couldn't call them 'cause I don't live in the US.) they emailed me with tips and more detailed instructions for the 1 1/4 inch button maker.

But hey it works and it works rather marvelously. I'm happy that I got it.

Here's a sample of the buttons I've made.

24  EUROPE / SCANDINAVIAN/NORDIC / Re: where to find cocktail / maraschino cherries? on: February 11, 2007 09:25:33 PM
have you ever been into the giant ica (i think?) at kungens kurva?
they have an "american" food section... they might have jars of maraschino cherries with stems...
there's a supermarket in fridhemsplan... i can't remember the name right now but it's near the entrance to the t-bana... they have a small section that sells "american" groceries too...
NK's grocery might have them too...
good luck with that!

26  CROCHET / Crochet: Completed Projects / what better to make than medieval weaponary? on: November 04, 2006 03:56:54 PM
I was invited to a Battle Royale (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_Royale) themed party for hallowe'en and we were to bring our own weapons for our battle royale. Unfortunately my friends and I were all too busy to really arrange it, so we postponed it.
But I already had an idea for the weapon that I would bring so I went ahead and made it anyways.
...And here it is...

I crocheted the ball and chain out of 100% acrylic Bernat yarn using 5.5mm crochet hook.
The handle is made from wood.
Some people has asked why I didn't crochet the handle. My explaination is that a crocheted and stuffed handle would be kind of floppy and you really need a good solid handle to maximize its full swinging potenial.

28  CRAFTY BUSINESS ADVICE / Crafty Business Discussion / legality question... copyright related... on: October 23, 2006 08:53:02 AM
i was at a local yarn store the other day and i saw an ad for a "surrogate" knitter...
now i have some friends who wanted me to knit some items from the patterns that are not mine... and unless it is a gift... i charge labour & materials...
i understand that i cannot sell items made from other ppl's patterns and claim it as my own...
but i was wonder if anyone knew if i could sell items made from other ppl's patterns... WITH notation that it is not my design... and charge only labour and materials...
29  KNITTING / Projects from the Stitch 'N B**ch Books by Debbie Stoller / BEHOLD! MY kitty hat! on: October 07, 2006 02:27:49 PM

I followed the pattern from Stitch 'N Bitch...
More or less the hat is the pattern from Stitch 'N Bitch...
I shortened the seed stitch areas... to 1 inch... rather than the 1 3/4 inch...
The ears are also different...

I knitted them in a round so they're like wee cat ear shapped pitas...
Then I stuffed them with a bit of fiberfill...
The side ear flaps were also not done in seed stitch...
