1  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Happy New Year! on: January 04, 2014 09:05:49 PM
I am so terrible at posting on Craftster - to be fair, I didn't make much last year to be worth posting. But I think my resolution for 2014 ought to be getting more involved with this board!

Anyway, to celebrate the new year I decided to embroider something - it's only small, but I love it Smiley

I put it up as a free pattern on my blog if you're interested in whipping one up  Wink

This is so fabulous - you did an amazing job of capturing Grumpy Cat!
3  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Re: Looking for advice for my first project- a FLASH TATTOO on: February 06, 2013 03:28:06 PM
I think kittykill's suggestion about tinting the fabric or printing the design is brilliant. But if you really want to stitch it all (and you're up for a challenge) you can look into long and short stitch - there's a great set of lessons on the technique here: http://www.needlenthread.com/2009/08/long-and-short-stitch-lessons-index.html.

For the outlines and lettering, I would use stem stitch, and long straight stitches for the lattice.
4  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Swedish Flower on: January 30, 2013 03:35:50 PM

I designed this flower to feature Hallandssom embroidery, which is a Swedish style of lattice embroidery. It was so much fun to stitch, and I like how cheery it is! I also made a version into a biscornu for a swap:

As always, there is more info on my blog: http://needleandcloth.wordpress.com/2013/01/30/taking-the-plunge/

Thanks guys! We moved to a new place recently, and I was looking for something to go on the walls - this was a great solution!

For those commenting on the evenness of the stitching, that's what makes working on a fabric like linen so great - I could count my stitching to make it even! So for example most of the stitches were worked over 5 stitches, while some of the larger ones were worked over 10. It makes it so much easier than having to eyeball it!

This is so gorgeous! I can just see it backed with red wool or felt and made into an ornament - although the cushion sounds like it will be stunning too!

I can't believe how long it is since I've posted on Craftster! I really should do something about that ...

Anyway, I finished a piece the other day that I'm really happy with, and I just wanted to post it here. It's an ombre-effect embroidery sampler.

Here's a basic guide to the stitches I used:

There's also a full tutorial over on my blog (http://needleandcloth.wordpress.com/2013/01/28/ombre-embroidery-sampler-tutorial/) if anyone's interested  Smiley
8  JEWELRY AND TRINKETS / Trinkets and Jewelry: Discussion and Questions / Where to find these settings? on: September 13, 2012 10:20:31 PM
Hope it's OK for a stranger to post in here! I'm keen to make some embroidered pendants, and I'd really like to get hold of bezel pendants like this: http://www.etsy.com/shop/Kailea?section_id=5903183

I'm wondering if anyone knows of any other sources for these, particularly places that sell in bulk/wholesale (it would be nice to know if I have that option before I get too enamoured of this style!).
