31  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Beaded Baby Onesies on: December 08, 2006 11:30:46 AM
Since Jenny said that she keeps her patterns simple so that users have plenty of room to embellish away, I thought I'd share the onesies I just did for the December birthday swap:

http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=138116.0

I used the sweets patterns from the new book and then went bead crazy ... little pearl marshmallows on the cake, green and silver jimmies on the ice cream cone and an entirely encrusted pink sprinkled cupcake.
32  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Dover Sampler on: November 17, 2006 05:15:51 PM
So, a month or so ago I accidentally signed up a second time for the weekly Dover Sampler. Interestingly enough, I'm now getting two samplers a week that are completely different from one another.

Thought I'd pass this along in case a once a week fix isn't enough.
33  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Chick Lit Swap on: October 23, 2006 07:59:27 PM
So, I've got three swap under my belt now and am thinking about organizing one of my own.

I have to admit that one of my guilty pleasures is chick lit books. Any others like me out there? The clothes, the shoes, the drinks, the journals, the getting ones groove back with or without the perfect guy?
34  NEEDLEWORK / Sublime Stitching Embroidery / Limited Edition Decemberists Patterns on: October 22, 2006 07:51:15 PM
I went to the The Decemberists show in Los Angeles last night and picked up the limited edition patterns. Yea!

My husband is already picking out the t-shirt and floss he wants me use for his t-shirt. For myself, I think a hoodie is in order.

They're so much fun Jenny. Great job.
35  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Discussion and Questions / Anyone Remember Nasco Pillows? on: July 16, 2006 03:59:58 PM
Not to date myself, but I had an early '80s flashback last night. Does anyone remember having to make a Nasco pillow in their home economics class?

They were these big (and honestly, not particularly pretty) pillows shaped like ice cream, cupcakes, ballet slippers, animals, etc. I remember flubbing my telephone up by accidentally sewing the cord (yes, this was before cordless telephones)  inside the pillow.

Anyway, imagine my delight to see the company is still around: http://www.enasco.com/top/615/Cartoon+Pillow+Kits/

Someday I may be nostalgic enough to make another one.
36  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Modified Paint-by-Number on: July 16, 2006 03:48:06 PM
What would you all think of a swap where each participant would buy a paint-by-number kit of their choosing and then modify it: using different colors than the ones "assigned," beads, glitter, crayons, what have you ... ?
37  MISCELLANEOUS TOPICS / Discussion and Questions / Mason Jars? on: June 23, 2006 04:58:46 PM
Can anyone recommend a cheap source for mason jars. I've tried the Big Lots! in my area (Los Angeles), but they're so disorganized. I think I keep overlooking them and the employees give me a blank stare when I ask about them. I even took one with me as a visual aid.

Sigh. This would never happen when I lived in Texas.
38  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Discussion and Questions / Rayon Thread on: June 16, 2006 02:32:01 PM
Out of curiosity, has anyone used rayon floss for embroidery? If so, how was is to use and were you pleased with the end result? The colors or so rich and it looks like it would give a nice gloss to the piece. Is it harder to work with than regular floss? Harder or easier than metallics?
39  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Onesiepalooza on: June 22, 2005 02:14:41 PM
So, friends just had their first child. I put together a set of 12 onesies (3 each in four different sizes to take him through the first year) that they were kind enough to photograph and put online.

Four of them are Sublime Stitching patterns (the luchador, monkey, robot and scooter), but most of the rest are ones I adapted myself. I'm particularly proud of the "Beemer" one, which is a recreation of a book cover. Previous to the real human one, it was the father's previous baby -- his first novel.
40  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Sloe Gin Fizz Recipes? on: June 16, 2005 05:00:41 PM
Okay, so several years back when I lived in Texas, my drink of choice was the sloe gin fizz. Between a fit of nostalgia and listening to that Loretta Lynn song on my iPod, I've recently become obsessed with them again. So after hunting down a bottle of sloe gin in Los Angeles (an extremely difficult endeavor) I whipped out a bartenders guide and mixed up a pitcher.

They were okay, but not what I remembered. I'm going for a more "adult" version of a Shirley Temple. Any suggestions?
