1  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: Fiber Friday the 13th June 2008 on: June 13, 2008 09:02:05 AM
Ooo, everything is lovely!

I've finally got something to share - I spun them up over the past couple of weeks, but I finally got pictures of them.

Hand dyed romney roving from my LYS.  Navajo plied, it ended up being about sport weight.

Hand dyed alpaca also from my LYS. Also navajo plied, final weight was heavy fingering weight.

Spun from my own batts - dyed merino, sparkle nylon, bombyx silk.  Also navajo plied, light worsted weight.

I find that really well prepared and "grabby" fibre works better for long draw.  Have you tried a medium wool (not merino, but something coarser), and/or freshly handcarded rolags (or drum carded batts)?  I had real trouble until I tried spinning long draw from freshly carded rolags, and when I finally did, it was much easier.  It's much harder trying to do it from commercial roving.

Don't feel bad, mines head is on backwards.  Roll Eyes

Lol. She can be "the Exorcist" poppet.

You'd just need to rig up a pea-soup-ejecting-tube!

*grin*

nevermore Maud looks great! Will the dress I made fit over her new under garments?? I love all the stuff you've made! Great job!
I'm glad you are having fun with her.

Yep - your dress fits over too, only it doesn't need the ingenious crinoline you devised to hold it up.

I love playing with dolls!  Grin

Crafty.Canadian - I love your new poppet!  I've not seen the movie, but it totally looks like Helena Bonham Carter!  I love the extra jointing too!

I finally have had a chance to sew some proper undergarments for Maude.  Bloomers, corset, petticoat, and bustle all made in the past couple days since I finished finals.  The corset is based on the pattern from craftewoman, and the other garments are all my own patterns (mostly rectangles!).

Front:

Back - the corset back isn't finished yet because the grommet inserter I have won't go through all the layers of fabric.  I'm going to sew on the eye portions of some hooks and eyes, and lace it up that way.

The bustle snaps onto the back of the petticoat, so I can remove it easily -

Bloomers and corset:

How to get the bloomers to go over her giant feet:

Now, I've gotta go sew her a dress.  She's feeling a little naked (like a proper Victorian Lady would!).

Glee!  I got my swap-poppet in the mail today from AlwaysInspired, so expect some new poppet fashions from me once I'm done finals!  Hooray!  Also, thanks to the ever generous Panda, I've also got supplies for me to try my hand at making my own poppet.  I'm super excited!

Neat sock ferret!

I just received a giant box in the mail from AlwaysInspired, which contained the poppet she made for me in exchange for some handspun yarn.  Maud (the Victorian kitty) is so wonderful, and makes me envious of people who can actually sew.

She's so lovely!   Thanks so much AlwaysInspired!
