4  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Big Square-y Square Bag, + other projects made with my sister (rather pic heavy) on: January 12, 2008 09:05:35 AM
'allo all. I've just been to Tulsa, OK to visit my sister, and as is our custom, we had to do something crafty. This time we decided on making purses. We have a friend who works for Habitat for Humanity out here, and he saved us a block of wood at their workshop and helped us to cut out handles from it, which we shaped and sanded according to the purse that inspired this purse-making binge.

We scouted through her fabric stash (one of the other things we did while I was here was try to organize her craft room!) and picked out various fabrics, as well as scored a couple vintage fabrics at a thrift store we went to.

So, without further ado, here are the purses, each with mini explanation.

PURSE #1

both together

the inside

close up of pattern. It's actually an orange-y brown, the lights in my sister's house just suck haha. This is one of the vintage fabrics we found, only $5 a yard, and its beautiful in person.

We got very frustrated with this purse, because we used a fusible interfacing to try to make it more sturdy, and should have gone with our gut feeling on which weight to use, the woman @ JoAnn's talked us into getting a heavier weight, which, we found out at 1 am was definitely a mistake. After wrangling with it, having to resort to using a staple gun, and snapping off part of one of my handles (we glued it back on...now you can only barely tell) we finished and took a break for the night.

The next day, (yesterday) we made these two other bags, and decided to take it easy on ourselves.
PURSE # 2

With strap out

Tucked in, for a beaaaautiful clutch

Easy as pie, with a couple dollar place mats, two lines of stitching and some iron-on velcro we made these little clutches, with optional ribbon strap.

PURSE # 3
Last, we decided we wanted big bags. And when i say big, I mean huge. If I curled up very small, i could almost fit inside one of these bags. Well...almost Cheesy

We decided on "big square-y square bag"'s (to quote my sis)
So, here they are.

insides, with cute little pockets

Action shot with me (please excuse my ridiculous face.)

I love this bag, because it is HUGE, and I have filled it with much yarn and other goodies to occupy me on my flight home and 4 hour layover in Chicago today haha.

Hope you enjoy, and sorry for the extreme amount of pics and explanation haha
