3  KNITTING / Knitting: Completed Projects / Re: Handspun sweater on: July 15, 2007 12:13:38 PM
My goodness, I'm speechless! This is absolutely amazing, I can't believe you spun that much yarn! A sweater's worth! It's so pretty too, well done.
4  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: Red & Blue Asian-themed Doll Quilt on: July 14, 2007 10:52:50 AM
This is so lovely- a perfect modern quilt! Every time I see the doll quilts, though, I try to think of what I'd do with it, and that fantasy involves making dolls, doll beds, clothes for the doll... It opens a scary can of fabric worms that I don't know if the sewing machine could handle!

The yellow border really makes the colors pop- well done!
6  QUILTING / Quilting: Completed Projects / Re: First Quilt- Aqua and Red on: July 14, 2007 10:47:48 AM
It's so beautiful! I'm impressed- I love seeing quilts done in "new" ways and it's so aesthetically pleasing. Good luck with your next one!
7  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Completed Projects / Re: Fiber Friday 5/25 on: May 25, 2007 11:29:57 AM
So many fun ones already! I'm especially loving Red Tide, Carnival, and Flowers in the sky.

My first few months as a spinner, I rocked the singles and plying made me anxious. Looks like I'm overcoming that really fast!
80 yds of Sheep Studio roving plied at a heavy worsted weight, dyed with acid dyes.

160 yds heavy sport/ thin worsted (?) 2-plied and dyed with acid dyes. I keep trying for "chartreuse" but always get neon green! Grrr.

Rubysdaughter, I had a yarn called andes mint too!
Lubee- that picture is precious!

The colors are so amazing this week, I love what everyone's doing and envy all of your natural light. It's gross out here, but fortunately, I've been snapping away all week!
Here's an experiment with spinning thick 'n thin:

I've also been enjoying plying it really tightly together- it makes an impractically heavy yarn, but I love the way it looks:

And here's my billionth attempt at coming up with lavender. It's still not lavender. Oi.

9  FIBER ARTS / Spinning: Discussion and Questions / Re: merino and tencel tips? on: April 19, 2007 02:19:47 PM
The only way I've been able to successfully spin this stuff is holding on really tightly. I rarely predraft with the slippery fibers- if you have a big handful of roving to hold on to and it seems like it's getting too thin, it's easier to add extra fibers.(but you also run the risk of having way to thick singles). Also, instead of holding the roving directly behind the feed, I hold it at somewhat of an angle- like if the wheel is 12 o'clock, I hold it at about 4 o'clock, and it makes it easier to catch fibers that way too. Good luck!

I've never used this yarn before but this sweater makes me want to give it a try- so lovely!
