31  BATH AND BEAUTY / Bath and Beauty: Discussion and Questions / changing my pink hair to purple on: December 23, 2005 03:12:50 PM
so i once bought one of those color stripping kits - the one that takes out the last color that you put in your hair.  i did it on my blue hair, and it pretty much removed the blue, and left the bleached stripes.

now i have pink stripes in my hair.  i was wondering if i could use one of those kits, remove the pink, and dye it over purple.  does anybody see any reason why this wouldn't work?

weird side question about the kit.  there's step one and tw that you mix, then after you do three.  when i did one and two, the color was stripped.  then when i did step three, it started to come back.  it was so weird.  i did the whole process over three times, when finally on the third time i just skipped the third step,. and then it worked.  anybody have any idea why it did that? because i may just skip the third step this time.

thanks!

33  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / Shrug Pattern Question on: December 18, 2005 02:06:01 AM
Hey all,
I want to knit this http://www.knitlist.com/98gift/shrugrecipe.htm shrug for my sister for Chanukah but I'm having a little trouble understanding one part.

So you knit in the round for the sleeve. Which I get.  Then it says:

"Make the body of the shrug by continuing the round until you have knit of the stitches, and then turn the work and knit flat (back and forth) in stockinette for 20 inches."

How do you get rid of the join in the round?  It doesn't just go away so you can start knitting flat.

Anybody?  I'm feeling stumped by this one.

35  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / My (usually accurate) hat formula on: November 03, 2005 08:56:38 PM
So I'm not saying this is exact.  I can't promise it is.  But it's worked almost every time for me.

So one time I made a hat. With worsted weight yarn and size 5 needles.  And I cast on 96 stitches, and it fit me well.  Then I wanted to make a hat on size 8 needles with chunky yarn. So I subtracted 4 stitches for every difference in the needles (12 stitches) and another 4 (or 8, depending on what it looked like when it casted on) for the difference in yarn weight.

And it seems to work! For almost everything!  If you subtract 4 for each difference in needle size from the size 5 needles from 96 stitches, and then another 4 or 8 stitches for the difference in yarn weight, it seems to work!

Now I'm not swearing by this.  Don't hate me if it doesn't work.  And you also have to take in account the person and the size of their head.  Mine comes out to be about a 22 inch hat, and I'm a 23 year old girl with a relatively normal sized head, so keep those things in account when you're adding or subtracting.  But I think it's a pretty good basis.

By the way, I'm doing it by multiples of 4 for the basis of the 2x2 ribbing at the bottom.  If you're not doing ribbing my formula doesn't make as much sense. Smiley
36  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / Talk About The Swap Process / feedback form on: September 30, 2005 10:19:19 AM
Is there any easier way to get to the feedback form than going through help to the swap organizing section to the swap organizing guide to the feedback form?  Cause that takes, well..  even longer than it took me to type that all out. Smiley

Anyone else had a problem with this?

39  KNITTING / Knitting: Discussion and Questions / stitch pattern question on: August 01, 2005 03:45:08 PM
OK, so I'm starting on this:

http://www.knitting-crochet.com/warsprjac.html

With knit picks Wool of the Andes.  The stitch pattern, which looks bumpy yet nice enough in the picture, seems to me to just look like knit 1 purl 1 ribbing on one side, and knit 1 purl 1 ribbing on the other side with a few well placed mistakes.  I'll take a picture at some point, but I think I just don't like it.  So.. the question now is... what can I do instead?  I could use just knit 1 purl 1 ribbing alone, but it seems to me that that's a lot of work for it when i'm not putting in the little bumpies.  Does anyone have any ideas for a different stitch pattern that will keep the sizing relatively the same?  I'll do a swatch to test it, but I think maybe I want to change it.  Thanks in advance!

All ages allowed? Or 18+? As long as you make it clear that you're under 18 to your partner, I don't see a problem.  If you've seen the movie, you've already been exposed to anything dirtier than I can think of crafting. =)
