WOW, these costumes are awesome! I love your attention to detail, from the hem of the skirt and sweet shoes, to all the painting you did! And the half-masks are great! Very clever! You two are a cute couple and I love all your romantic skeleton serenading! Great job!  Cheesy
12  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Watch out for Poison Ivy's deadly kiss . . . on: November 01, 2009 07:57:27 PM
Hope everyone had a fabulous Halloween!

I decided to make a Poison Ivy costume this year, as I relish any chance to dress as a redheaded character! It must be said that I became good friends with a hot glue gun this past week.

I started with an old greenish bathing suit that my mom generously let me use. I went to the thrift store and found some beautiful garments to butcher: one was a huge olive green nubby silk shirt, and the other was a iridescent blue-green silk indian sari. I knew I didn't want to use only fake leaves from the craft store; I wanted to create something with more depth, texture, and color variation. I spent a few hours cutting the silks into rough leaf shapes. I started playing around with the placement of leaves on the bathing suit, and decided that I wanted to make the leaves sort of wrap around my body in a large spiral. Once I had glued all the fabric leaves down how I wanted them, I added in layers of the fake leaves from the craft store

Then I accessorized: dramatic makeup (including Poion Ivy's signature red lips), brown opaque tights with green fishnets layered over top, my trusty brown boots, an ivy garland boa, green kneehighs reused as gloves/ arm warmers (with leaf trim at the top). I wore a thrift store bustier/ corset thingy underneath for a better waist-cinching effect. Hope you like it!   : )

In my backyard at dusk.

The drama!!! It's... too much!

My boyfriend dressed as a Post-Apocalyptic Wasteland Zombie Hunter from any number of bad '80s movies.

He was too cute... I couldn't help myself, so I had to give him my poisonous Kiss of Death. Oops!   ^_^
