Meet Sholto. He is a character from the Meredith Gentry books by Laurell K Hamilton. I made him for a personal swap with FaerieCyn. He's probably the most challenging poppet I've ever attempted!
Thanks to his mother's sidhe blood, Sholto has tri color irises in three shades of gold. I hand painted his eyes to portray this, though it didn't come out as well in the pictures.
However, his father was a nightflyer, leaving Sholto with a mass of tentacles protruding from his abdomen. Each tentacle is poseable. I used the poppet tail pattern for them, stuffed them with pipe cleaners and hand stitched them to his abdomen.
I was partnered with PaleAngelLex in the OTT Game of Thrones swap. She made a comment about my poppets and that's when Dany demanded to be made. Since it was an OTT swap I shrank the pattern down so that she only stands 7" tall.
She is wearing a more modest version of her Qaartheen clothing. The patterns for the dress and the waist cincher are both hand drawn. There is a slit in the side of the dress that leaves her leg bare. She also has a bracelet and arm cuff that are wrapped wire, along with a chain belt, charm bracelet and sparkly necklace, since a queen needs to have her jewelry!
Her eyes are hand painted since I couldn't find any the proper size around here and didn't have time to order them.
Allow me to introduce you to Orianna. She's a witch. I made her as part of the BOS swap for my partner, LA-Fairy. I love her sparkly purple hair
Here's a view of her with her hat, since every witch needs a hat, right?
Close up of the hat itself. It's completely handmade. The base is some pretty stiff glossy cardstock, which I then covered with panne velvet to match the rest of the outfit.
On to the outfit! LA-Fairy said she adores purple and orange together, so I of course complied! The skirt is a simple circle skirt of panne velvet, which I added a gathered orange ribbon to. That gave it some flounce. I then trimmed it with a purple ribbon to get both colors in. The bodice is from ghillie's basic pattern, only rounded, and utilizing the same color scheme as the skirt. The shrug has slightly belled sleeves that are trimmed in purple.
Allow me to introduce you to Captain Isabel Starr of the Grey Dawn. She is a privateer if you ask her, but pirate might be a bit more fitting. Her ship was commandeered from His Majesty's fleet and has served her well for many years. She was made for a private swap with IsikkahJai.
Like many pirates, she likes to wear her wealth. The braid she keeps in her hair shows off many of the trinkets that have caught her eye during her voyages.
You can also see them in her bracelets and rings.
Her over the knee boots are from some unknown lizard skin. If you ask her about them, chances are she'll tell you they're from a dragon she's slain.

I had brunette_bombshell as a partner in the Mini Poppet Swap. She's a costume design major with leanings to the 20's, 30's and 40's. So the gangster and flapper poppets were born!
I was originally only going to make the flapper, but as soon as the idea for her fixed in my head, she was already insisting on having a man with her, and she wasn't even cut out yet! But any poppeteer out there knows it's useless trying to argue with a poppet, so I gave into her. First time I've ever had a poppet insist on being arm candy though.
This is Leila Madison
Her dress is made with layers of hand stitched fringe so that it will really move when she's doing the Charleston
And her headband, complete with rhinestones and feathers
And this is Leila's boyfriend, Leo 'The Blade' Sorocco
Without his hat
Close up of his pinstripe suit. The tie's real and actually comes of and ties like a regular tie!
Close up of the hat with its polymer clay Ace
Another picture of them together
I have to admit that while I started the project with only Leila in mind, I ended up liking Leo better out of the pair.
I would like to introduce all of you to Karlanna. I made her for an angel package sent to theatreorchid in the Plethora of Poppets swap. Karlanna means Daughter of the Dragon, and I'm sure you can see where she got the name from.
Thanks to her dragon blood, Karlanna is a sorcerer. This allows her to hide her wings when she needs to
I really loved making her. As soon as I had the idea for her, she mostly created herself and I was just following her instructions! Here's a closeup of her top, necklace and belt
Her eyes, which show her dragon blood, are hand painted. I did the black veins first and then filled in with antique gold to match the gold in her outfit
Her hair is a combination of dark red and black worsted yarn, with some black fun fur thrown in for texture. I liked the way it came out in Allegra so much I decided to use it again
Her hair is held back by a headband that matches her outfit
And now the good part- her wings! I made them detachable so they wouldn't be damaged in shipping and so that orchid could have some accessorizing options
Each wing is wired along the outside edges and down two veins within each wing. I drew up the pattern for them myself and used fabric covered floral wire inside. This way they can be shaped
And a close up of the awesome fabric. I found it a while ago and made a cloak for the medieval reenactment society I'm part of. When I read through orchid's questionnaire the fabric came to mind and luckily I had enough for Karlanna. It's dark red with black and gold in it
The tutorial for how to make dragon wings is on page 3.
I saw a gorgeous sea goddess pendant made from shells on a website recently. I was appalled by the $30 price tag (before shipping charges!) and thought those infamous last words:
'I could do that!'
Luckily hubby wasn't around to sigh and shake his head at me when I said that (yes it was out loud to myself). Also luckily, we happened to have a basket full of shells picked up off various beaches in our bathroom. That, combined with pearls and blue goldstone chips and hot glue, allowed me to recreate the beautiful pendants in my own style. So without further adieu, here they are!
