2  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Virgo and a pair of sexy sweaters! *Pic Heavy* on: April 25, 2012 09:05:06 PM
Hi guys!

I'm just finishing up my second year at fashion college in Toronto, and I thought I'd share some of the things I've been working on!

Craftster has been such a fun time, and has inspired me to keep sewing and creating even when I was exhausted, so I'm putting these up as a thank you, for all the support of the fantastic people on this forum Smiley

This was a project for a knitwear class, we had a week to be taught how to sew skirt/sweats/sweater or whatever it was, design our own interpretation of it, and hand a completed garment, pattern and technical sketch in the next week! Phew!

My lovely model is wearing a pair of biker shorts I also made underneath, since it really is a shirt. The fabric is a loose knit sweater fabric, with a gold thread running through.

This next one was also a knitwear project, where we had to make a boat neck sweater.

There are also small gold studs along the front neck and the cuff in place of buttons. And then the real drama is in the back!

A nice big cowl with gold chains strung across it! This is my personal favorite knitwear project, I wear it all the time, and it fits me, even though I'm double the size of my model! (She's a 6, I'm a 12)

This next one was for a contest I did at the start of school. 12 students were given the twelve signs of the zodiac, and we had to design and create an outfit with a $300 gift card from Fabricland.

This is Virgo!

All the skirt pieces were cut individually from a combination of organza, lace, tulle and chiffon; which were then hemmed and joined into the corset along with a super poufy petticoat. There are also inset bra-cups, because my runway model was lacking in the breast department.  It also had a bolero that went with it:

The jacket is essentially a bolero, with a giant ruffle.
If you really like it, and want to see the runway shots at the contest, or some of the other entries, you can go here:   http://www.catwalkcure.ca/photogalleries/pbalinksi.html

It's a slideshow on the companies website Smiley

Everything in this post was designed, drafted and sewn by me, so please ask my permission if you want to reproduce any of my work, and please don't sell copies of my garments.

If anybody would like to know how I did a specific thing, or a close-up of any details, I can add them in. Smiley

4  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan Swap? on: January 02, 2012 04:25:28 PM

I was wondering if there would be any interest in doing a swap based on the book series The Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan?

Point Values optional, depending on how much interest there is and how much everyone has time for!

If there is interest, this will be my first time as swap organizer, so any suggestions at all would be fantastic, or if anyone would like to help me organize.

I'm in Canada, we can make this Canada, North America or International. I don't know how popular this fantastic series is elsewhere!
5  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Fashion University Application Photoshoot! *Picture chubby* on: March 19, 2010 08:14:06 PM
Alright! So I've not really posted much before, but let's get right into it. I'm applying for the fall semester at Ryerson University in Toronto, so these are the dresses I sent to them in my application in February (yikes took me long enough!)

This first one is my own design, done from a basic pattern block.

And yes, this photoshoot was done outside, standing on a skating rink and snow, at -20 plus windchill. yay Canadian winters!

Very titanic-esque I've been told.

This gives you a better idea of the godets inserted to make the skirt more full. A two foot train is hard to add when you've never done it, and don't have any guides to go from.

The real drama of this piece is the back, or lack there of. I had fun shaping it, but I'm happy with how it turned out.

On to the next piece. This pattern is entirely self drafted, made straight from my measurements. the seams point dramatically down from the waist to the hips, with a front pleat and contoured bodice. Lovely burgundy damask. Let me know if anyone wants the pattern?

And here's the bodice. It doesn't wrinkle, it was just hard to sit right off a body.

Last but not least, this was also an art project. I hand bleached the brick design into some broadcloth, then made the stencils and painted those on with a lightweight acrylic. I then splattered neon colours all over it. This is definately one of my more dramatic pieces.

And the outside shot.

The stencils are of a bandana wearing teddy bear, and my name, Kat, if you were wondering.

Thanks for looking, C&C always appreciated!

6  Halloween / Halloween Costumes / Blue Satin Masquerade on: November 03, 2009 06:13:20 PM
So! Halloween costume, 2009, here goes.

I decided I wanted to be a character from a masquerade ball. Think secret princess that sneaks off every night to go dancing with her sweetheart. So I decided I had to have a floorlength ballgown, complete with princess points over the hands and a sweetheart neckline.

This pattern was created entirely by me, so if you want it, I can always add a tute. The skirt was simply 2 metres of the blue satin, gathered. it closes by a zipper and hook and eye up the back. took about 4 metres total.

And without further ado, onto the pictures.

Full costume, I did not make the cloak, but I did make the mask.

Without the cloak. I promise I don`t look this silly usually. There are darts up the front, back and from the sides of the bosom.

The sleeves, closeup. Some really complicated facings and attachment techniques to get this effect, but I`m pleased with it.

And the wrist side of the sleeves.

And lastly my mask. Blue satin on one side, and black wool from another project on the other. ribbon closure. And it`s honestly not that wonky, it was hard to photograph. Also, the fuzzy appearance is from the black wool on the other side.

Thanks for looking, C&C welcome. Again, I`ll post a pattern if anyone would like it.

*HELP* When I tried to rotate pictures, it would rotate the frame dimensions, but not the picture. So my sideways long pic would become tall, but the image would stay sideways. any ideas how to fix that?*
