1  SEWING IN GENERAL / Sewing in General: Discussion and Questions / Beginner on: June 27, 2005 08:21:10 PM
Hey ya'll.  I'm a beginner as far as sewing goes..and I'm considering on how to begin.  Any suggestions?  Such as what kind of pattern to start off with for a beginner?  Perhaps one that I could easily alter, or add things too?  I do several fashion sketches, and I'm very passionate about them, I've just yet to learn how to make my 2D creations, into 3D.  Any suggestions would be most kind and considerate.  Thanks!

Wouldn't happen to be a hairdressor would ya?   Wink  (I'm going to school for it..lol)  It's rare to find people daring with their hair.  I applaud you.  Not only for the do, but the clothing too.  Nice!   Grin

get a good sewing book, buy a book on pattern making, or read my tutorial on making patterns from existing clothing.  i would definately buy a book though, if you're serious about wanting to learn.  i use my pattern making books everyday.  wonderful.

hope this helps

Thank you very much for your input as well.  I will definately put your link to some usage.  I know I have a lot to learn, and I look forward to my successes, as much as my failures.  After all it's all just a learning process!  Thanks again!   Grin

Hello and welcome  Smiley

I don't know much about pattern making; in fact, I just purchased a book about fabric draping for design.  My best advice to you is to practice your sewing skills.  Even store bought patterns can teach you something.  If you buy them on sale, the dollar you spend can pay off in the long run.  I started with the basic pattern and then learned how to deviate from that.

Thank you very much for your input!  I am definately hoping to devote more time to my fashion designing skills after I finish and graduate this March.  There are so many outfits I've designed for myself and my friends, and I just haven't had the time, nor the money to effectively devote my skills to it.  Thank you again for your input!   Grin

Shocked  Can you make me one?  lol  I LOVVVVEEE  Asian/Orient designs and styles.  They are so unique.  If only I could sew!  I can draw those designs all day long though... Grin

Hey guys and gals!  The Lunar Fairy here...I'm afraid I'm a newbie around these parts, but thought I'd give this post a try.  I've been doing fashion designer drawings since I was very young.  I've always wanted to learn how to perhaps figure out some possible pattern making techniques, even though I haven't learned how to sew yet...but I am open to learn!   Cheesy  I am reaching out now into the depths of craftster, in hopes of finding new mentors here to teach me things I need knowledge of...lol  If any one has any pointers of how I could get started, it would be much appreciated.  I am hoping I'll be able to post some of my drawings on here, and get ya'lls oppinions on them.  Thanks, and I hope to hear great things!   Roll Eyes
