Is there a taste difference between the crab apple jelly and a regular apple jelly? I've always wondered about that.
I'm curious about that myself as I've only ever had store bought jams before and never tried any apple jelly before. I would hazard a guess that normal apple jellies are sweeter as crab apples are quite bitter and not meant for eating like normal apples, from what my mum tells me.

The crab apple tree in my garden has just produced its first fruit of the season and this year, instead of having to waste it, I decided to try making crab apple jelly with it. It feels like it could be addictive to make and it would be really nice to use up all the glass jars I hoard away.

So far I've only made one 500g jar, but I really hope as my fruit trees and brambles produce fruit, I'll be able to make more jam.
I used this recipe http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/7661/crab-apple-jelly

Very nice. I like the shape of the bag and the colour contrasts between the fabrics.

I'm not sure what yarn I used because I lost the paper that holds the skein as a ball. I have however found one that's similar if not the same which is Wendy's Peter Pan DK in Tartan

My second attempt at a crochet scarf done in single crochet. This is a birthday present for a friend of mine. Normally I craft her something for her birthday and it's always late. This year, I started well in advance as her birthday is in November.

This is absolutely beautiful. I'm sure any bride would be lucky to wear that.
37  COOKING / Recipes and Cooking Tips / Soda Bread on: February 02, 2011 11:47:58 PM
Last night, my mum and I decided we would try to make soda bread. She had already bought all of the ingredients the day before and yesterday we were trying our first soda bread.

For our first try, I think it went pretty well overall. My family think so anyway because there's only one end piece left now.

For those of you who might want to try this,
Soda Bread Recipe:
6 ounces of self raising flour
6 ounces of plain wholemeal flower
1/2 a tea spoon of bicarbonate of soda
1/2 a teaspoon of salt
1 pot of buttermilk (about 280ml)

1. Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius.
2. Put all the dry ingredients into a large bowl and stir.
3. Make a well in the centre of the dry ingredients.
4. Pour the buttermilk into the well and stir with a fork.
5. Knead briefly to form it into a round ball.
6. Place on a floured baking tray.
7. Cut a cross on top.
8. Bake for about 30 minutes.

Our oven is a fan oven so you may need to adjust the time or temperature accordingly.
