Those ARE great!

Did you use torn paper for the background?

How much pressure do you apply? Do you apply it to the block onto the paper or the paper onto the block?

Hey thanks again everyone for the great feedback.

Do you think that printing them on a large offset press makes them less-crafty?

Or is craftiness more a state of mind?

That is a great bag. Was it hard working with the piping? Is that what it's called?

Thank you both for your nice comments. We should have done them a little earlier, but this is just good incentive to get started on our Valentines cards for next year!

Thanks again!

It's been a long time since I've posted (except for the Gilmore Girls vs. Craftster thread). But work has been particularly hectic.

My wife came up with the concept and I illustrated it (Adobe Illustrator). They're printed on a professional offset printer, so I don't know if they officially count as paper crafts.

But I did want to see what Crafster members thought of it.

On the outside, you see our snowman suffering through spring rains, summer heat, and autumn leaves. On the inside, you see him in an impressionistic snow scene saying, "Tis the Season!"

The name of the card is "Four Seasons."

Hope you like it!

9  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Craftster Itself / Re: Craftster on Gilmore Girls! on: November 28, 2006 06:05:06 PM
Well my wife and I just saw the episode and her shirt does in fact say, "Knit or Go Home," which is most definitely cool.

1. The logo is undeniably Craftster.

2. Leah has said that the CW or GG did not ask for permission.

3. It doesn't count as free publicity if Craftster isn't credited. If the shirt had the name Craftster or the the logo brand were more widely identified, then maybe it would be ok.

Now, I am NOT a lawyer, but I am a designer who deals with brands. The logo, if Leah created it new and not from pre-existing clip art, owns the copyright to it from the moment of creation. Regardless if she has registered it.

However, registering your trademark makes your court proceedings so much easier. But even then, doing so doesn't guarantee your win if someone else can prove prior ownership. I do believe however, Leah can still register it ex post facto since she is still the original owner.

Ideally, CW should give her cold hard cash for using the logo. However, that might (probably) not happen. The next best thing would be to get credit for the show AND, even better, allow the CW to sell shirts on their company web site and give her the proceeds and link credit. That would be worth it.

10  NEWS AND DISCUSSION ABOUT CRAFTSTER / Latest News / Re: 3/16/06 - Interesting Book Signing / Craftster Get-Together Locations? on: March 20, 2006 04:31:35 PM
Here are some great alternative and LOCAL bookstores around the DC area!

Olson's Books
2111 Wilson Blvd
Arlington, VA 22201-3001
703-276-7888

Kramerbooks
1517 Conn. Ave., NW
Just Above Dupont Circle
In The Heart of Washington, D.C.
www.kramers.com

Politics and Prose
5015 Connecticut Avenue NW
Washington, DC 20008
1-800-722-0790
www.politics-prose.com

*Note: Politics & Prose is definitely more scholarly, but they are VERY author friendly and have more in-store signings than anywhere else in DC.

Washington City Paper: Crafty Bastards Craft Fair

Eastern Market Open Air Flea Market
Washington DC

I'm willing to bet dollars to donuts, that if you can get Urban Outfitters to sell your book then they would be totally up for an in-store signing. They have DJ's spin at some of the DC locations. There's one in Georgetown and one in Chinatown DC. That's totally up their alley.

Good luck and hope to see you soon!
