31  Craft Swaps / ACTIVE SWAPS WHERE SIGN-UP PERIOD HAS CLOSED / Re: Crafster Card Swap (SignUps 7/15/16-7/29/16, Sendouts 8/15/16) on: July 22, 2016 04:48:38 PM
Those should be the extra special rare cards that everyone has to trade two cards to get. LOL!

Oh, Gozer - I think you're onto something there. I can't quite picture how it'd work, but I think the key is that these should be trading cards. Like everyone else, I haven't even started my card for this round and I'm already imagining the next, and I keep having trouble with the fact that in future rounds there will already be many people who already have each others' cards from this swap. So do you just collect a new one each round, or is there some way that they can be traded? "I've already got a Gozer card, so I'll trade it to you for a MountainsAndClouds card." This could be a lot of fun in years to come. I can hardly wait for the app to be released! Grin

And one of the unexpectedly wonderful things about having met some of you at the meet-up last month, is that I can now read the things you post in your own voices. So I can actually "hear" Onyxnox making those disturbing vacuum sounds. Cheesy

I want to swap with you! Cheesy Those patches are all great, and I especially love the way you filled in the spaces around the skeletons with cross-stitches. A great way to start a collection, and lots of fun for future swaps.

Cookie Monster is wonderful! That's exactly the right shade of blue; there's a Cookie Monster Blue that we all grew up seeing and would  recognize instantly, and that's it. And the seed beads on the cookie are perfect.

I'm glad you liked the coffee badge. It was the first one I made, and I didn't know if I liked it so I tried two or three more, but in the end I decided it had been the right one all along.

Glad you liked it all, Cherie! It's been long enough that I'd actually forgotten what I sent (poor short-term memory), so it was a nice surprise for me. I remembered Animal, but somehow I'd forgotten Dr. Who. I can't remember exactly what I did to produce that logo patch, but I know it was done by hand rather than printed. I think I traced the outline in something I hoped would act as a resist to separate the areas (it may have been actual gutta - know I tried it, but I can't remember if it was what worked best) and then flooded the spaces with Golden Liquid Acrylics. I was intending to use actual fabric paint, but of course when it came down to it I realized I had six shades of green and no blue. Cheesy

I think those tiny stone beads are citrine. The pears are undoubtedly synthetic, though!

This is the most brilliant idea for a swap I've seen in years! I've always wished I had kept a kind of directory of all the people I've swapped with over the years, and this would be the perfect way to do it. And apart from the cost of postage, it's a remarkably affordable and low-stress swap.

I'm filling out my questionnaire right now, before I forget. And there's no reason to wait before starting on my card. What a ridiculous amount of fun this'll be!

So sorry to hear about your dad, jkaywiz. The loss of a parent at any age is always a great upheaval, even if you think you're quite prepared for it.

I love the idea of making a junk journal with pockets to hold ATCs. Like most people, I've been struggling to figure out how to store them and yet make them available to look at. This seems a great solution.

What a great Sonic Screwdriver!

And glad you liked the package, RovingAnarchist. No, I didn't make the two pieces in the last photo - the odd flower and the mushrooms. They came from a bundle of commercially-made sew-on decorations I got somewhere. Most of them are quite 3D, and some rather odd. The wrench patch came from Microcosm Publishing, and the one with the bomb I think I got from some protesting punks at one of the Papal visits. Cheesy

You might like Pop-Out Furniture, which is a line of laser-cut card furniture of different historical periods meant for theatre designers.  at 1/4"=1', it would be perfectly scaled for some of your smaller figures.

There's nothing about that flying heart that I don't love, Sharalee! Kiss

40  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Stitched Mandala Swap (SU CLOSED, SO 8/15) on: July 17, 2016 02:26:12 PM
Here's a nice, simple tutorial on stitching a mandala:

http://sewsweetstitches.blogspot.ca/2014/09/diy-embroidered-mandala-tutorial.html

And this is the motherlode of stitched mandalas on Pinterest:
https://www.pinterest.com/aha47/geborduurde-mandalas-embroidered-mandalas/  7,517 pins on this board alone, plus she has other boards for crocheted mandalas, mandala quilts, felt mandalas... whew!

I got off to a great start yesterday, with a flourish of patching, sewing, basting, etc. Now I have to actually stitch the actual mandala though, so I'm dragging my feet.
