I've been thinking about stamp carving, particularly a repeating block.

edelC is the Queen of the Repeating Stamps, of course. I love carving stamps, and have done quite a few, but somehow I never think of doing one for a repeating pattern. I think I'll have to try that next - it's not like it has to be a huge commitment of time. You can carve a wonderful stamp in half an hour.

When I found out alteredmommy would be my partner, I knew I needed a certain kind of heart to start with. "No problem," I thought, "they'll be everywhere at this time of year." Uh, no. I started with the main dollar store chain, because it was local and they have two aisles of Valentines stuff. Nothing. "Michaels is sure to have it," I thought. Even less, in fact. Today I tried another large dollar store, and they had something close, though not what I actually wanted. I'm terrified I might have to go to Walmart. But I hope it won't come to that.

Yes, Ian was born in London during a WWII air raid, so Winston Churchill is a favourite. None of these are available for modifying, needless to say. Cheesy

I'm always amazed that you're able to interpret any detail at all from such low-res images. And I suspect that some of these creations are just an excuse to create more of your hilarious toy dialogues. Cheesy

I think I mentioned that my partner collects tins. This is some of his treasures:

Of course they aren't just tea tins - there are cigarette tins, biscuit tins, etc.

Wow, Yofi, the wood on that stand is GORGEOUS! I wouldn't have known what it was, either. With an ashtray on top, it would be a smoking stand, but that doesn't make sense with the mirror. The idea of sitting down comfortably to shave seems very civilized - especially with such an elegant shaving stand.

And your stripping and re-finishing is beautifully done. Very often people strip painted 19th c. furniture only to find that the wood underneath isn't especially nice because it had always been meant to be painted. But beautiful quarter-sawn oak like this must always have been meant for show, and now it's back in the light.

Yay! This is my 100th Swap! And it's appropriate that I get to be partnered with the amazing alteredmommy. I seem to remember that you were one of my earliest swap partners!

I've actually been going over heart ideas in my head as I drift off to sleep the past few nights, but knowing my partner's taste, I think I'm going to go in a different direction. It'll be even better!

8  PAPER CRAFTS, SCRAPBOOKING & ATCs (ARTIST TRADING CARDS) / Paper Crafts: Completed Projects: General / Re: New (Tiny) Art Journal on: January 14, 2017 04:55:48 PM
Will you keep an update of your pages?

I hadn't thought of that. Perhaps on Flickr or something.

"Soggy Bottom Boys" - that's perfect!

9  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / The Swap Gallery / Re: Paper De-Stash and Junk Journal Goodies 2016 GALLERY on: January 14, 2017 04:33:54 PM
I just tried a roll of that washi tape and I am sorry. It is terrible. No stick at all. I got all fancy and went to JoAnns. I usually order cheap washi from China. Live and learn.

Oooh! Can you tell us about cheap washi from China? Or maybe that's something that should be in the Paper and Mixed-Media Craftalong.

10  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Re: Slow cloth patches on: January 14, 2017 03:43:35 PM
I think you're right, wryly - I wish the stitching in the second one stood out more. However, I love the background fabric, so it's hard to choose one or the other.

Thanks for your idea of putting these patches into a cloth book, crafty. Of the two fabulous patches I received from JoyfulClover in the recent Slow Cloth/Boro Patch Swap, I have a purpose intended for one, but the other (the rust dragon one) seems too special to incorporate into anything else. A page in my yet-to-be-assembled fabric book is a brilliant idea!
