1  CROCHET / Crochet: Discussion and Questions / Looking for mini mermaid tail pattern (for a mermaid tails banner) on: May 25, 2016 10:54:03 AM
Hello ladies,
My son's fiance is having her bridal shower in July. The theme is mermaid. I would like to surprise her with a crochet mermaid tails banner.
I am not a expert crocheter but I can follow most patterns. I am looking for a small, I guess doll size mermaid tail pattern.
Help me, please.
2  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Easter / Eggshell Cups with Chocolate Pudding on: March 27, 2016 08:09:20 AM
I made these eggshell cups for my family. I decorated them with a wedding theme because one of my twin sons is engage to be marry.
Bride & Groom eggshell cups, Pink Flower Girls eggshell cups for my granddaughters and family wedding party eggshell cups for the rest of the family.

This is how I serve them.

The eggshell cups are very easy to make:
Crack and open the eggs.
Empty the eggshells.
Sterilize the eggshells in boiling water for 3 minutes.
Dry the eggshells
Decorate the eggshells.
Place the eggs cut side up in an egg cartoon.
Pour pudding into the eggshells cups.

The little color spoons are from Daiso (the japanese store where most items are $1.50) that fortunately we have several of them in the Bay Area.

I must confess that even when I like how the eggshells cups come out, I am considering buying a egg topper cracker tool to have a perfect eggshell edge for next year; is the curse of my mild OCD and my preference for uniformity.

Happy Easter!  Smiley
3  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Easter / Strawberry Cascarones 2016 on: March 10, 2016 12:15:28 PM
This is my third year making Easter Cascarones for my granddaughters. Because I only make 2 dozen, 1 dozen for each girl, I make them different each year.

This year strawberry design was really easy to make and they come out very pretty. The strawberry leaves are made with green crepe paper to give texture to the leaves and the "seeds" are painted on with gold permanent Sharpie marker.

The Strawberry Cascarones were already delivered to the girls. They are creating an Easter tradition of smashing Cascarones with their godmother. It has been really meaningful for their godmother because that was one of her childhood Easter traditions and I am happy to make the Cascarones for them.

5  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Valentine's Day / Valentines Day Crafts on: February 13, 2016 05:24:05 PM
These are the Valentines Day Crafts I made for my family.
For my children and their significant other, Valentines Day Heart Paper Doilies Pockets with Dove & Butterfinger heart shaped chocolates.

The red ones are for my granddaughters.

The heart pockets are very easy and fast to make, just hand stitch along the paper doilies hearts. You can hide the stitches union under the bow, but I choose to close it with a bow at the bottom because I didnt like the idea to end up with a torn heart.

Lips and Mustaches photo props.

The photo props are kind of a family tradition, I make photo props for holidays and family parties for fun pictures.

I made these Crochet Red Rose Hair Clips for my daughter and her twin daughters (my granddaughters).

I made these cards for my granddaughters to give to their parents.

These Valentines Day ornaments are in my fathers room at the nursing home he is residing.

This crochet envelope with chocolates and two crochet red hearts is for my husband. I made the envelope without checking which day of the week Valentines day was. I usually make something small to put on his lunch box.

6  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Winter Holidays / Belated Christmas Ornaments - Bride to Be & Political Ornaments - on: January 29, 2016 09:56:53 AM
Valentines Day is fast approaching but because I never had the time to post these Christmas ornaments (holiday gatherings and lots of family birthdays in January) I am posting them now; better late than never.

Bride to Be Ornament for my Future Daughter in Law

Political Ornaments for opposite political party family members. We have a lot of fun with these ones and took really funny family pictures with them.

Now, onto Valentines' Day crafting!
7  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Party Planning / Its a Small World 5th Birthday Party (Image overload) on: August 17, 2015 09:36:12 AM
My twin granddaughters are starting kindergarten today!  I cant believe it! These five years are gone so fast. This year their birthday party theme was Its a Small World.

Cant take credit for the cake, it was ordered.
Cake table with girls cultural heritage dolls (Mexico, USA, Cuba, Germany and Japan). Poster ordered from Overnight prints.

I made the cupcakes. I took the Oriental Trading Co. Kids of the World line and made cupcake toppers matching the kids graphic of the favor boxes. I took one of the girls graphic and frankensteined =) to create an American cowgirl and a Cuban girl.

The centerpieces were dolls around the world. I found a bag of vintage Arco Dolls of the World in my local thrift store for $ 9.99. The bag had 6 Greek dolls, 2 Scottish dolls, 2 African dolls, 2 Italian dolls, 1Dutch doll, 1 Sweetish doll and 1 Polish doll.
I wanted to highlight the girls cultural heritage (The girls have maternal Cuban grandparents, paternal Japanese Great-grandmother, German Great- Great-grandfather and Mexican Great-grandparents), so armed with the glue gun, ribbons, lace trims and craft pearls I turn 4 of the Greek dolls into a Cuban doll, a Mexican doll, and an American doll. The other Greek doll was dress up with a red kimono from another doll that I bought at the same thrift store another day. The second Dutch doll was turn into a German doll by using the skirt from the second Italian doll and some lace trim.

Italy

Scotland

Holland

England

South Africa

Denmark

Poland

I took this picture from Disneyland's Its a Small World ride as inspiration to design the centerpieces and wrote Hello, Friend and Family in the language of each doll.

Favor Boxes The favor boxes, crayons and passports are from Oriental Trading Co.  Small world globe balls from eBay and DIY Its a Small World coloring book.

Countries Station Table Kids traveled with their passport to get a passport sticker stamp and a souvenir from each country:
Japan Origami paper

Germany - Pretzels

Mexico Lucha Libre Paper Masks and Calavera Paper Masks

Cuba DIY Cohiba Cigar Box with Cuban Cigars (twist candy bars with DIY cigar labels)

Food:  Cuba Cuban Macaroni Salad
          Japan Sushi California rolls
          Mexico Mexican-style grilled chicken
          Germany Frankfurter (hot dogs)

Photo Props Table with hats and props from around the world.

I designed the party invitations by borrowing Disneyland Paris Its a Small World 50 Anniversary celebration schedule poster. Coloring book cover, photo props sign and favor boxes tag were designed by using other borrowed Its a Small World graphics.

The girls dresses took over two months to plan because the You and Me fabric from the Good Earth Collection by Alexander Henry is discontinued; I was able to find only yard on Etsy. Then I found the Out to Sea fabric with a world map print by Sara Jane for Michael Miller Fabrics and by combining both fabrics I designed a simple Its a Small World summer dress.  Even when it cant not be seen, the top part of the dress is lined with the Hello fabric in blue (the print is the world Hello in many languages) from the Good Earth Collection by Alexander Henry.

It was so much fun planning and making all the crafts for this birthday party. Next year I have a wedding to craft for, my son is engaged to be married and the bride likes my ideas, yay!

8  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Baby Showers And Gifts For New Babies / Call the Midwife Crochet Baby Blanket on: July 11, 2015 11:07:08 PM
Being a fan of the BBC/PBS show Call the Midwife, I love all the vintage clothes, props and crochet baby blankets from the show. Searching for a crochet baby blanket pattern on line, for my nieces baby girl, I found the pattern for this crochet blanket from their 2012 Christmas Special. Here it is, in hot pink splendor! (Bernat Softee Baby Soft Red yarn)

Call the Midwife screenshot & blanket pattern by littlemonkeyscochet.com

And because I love photo props, I made her a Crochet Shell Headband, Diaper Cover and Baby Slippers Set and two Lace Crowns.

Every little girl is a Princess. Every Princess needs a Crown, or two!

9  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Easter / Animal Faces Cascarones 2015 on: April 04, 2015 07:22:32 AM
Last year was the first time I made Cascarones for my granddaughters.  They were a smashing success =) so this year the Easter Cascarones are back!

To make them different from the flower decorated cascarones of last year (http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=432884.0, this year I decorated them with little animal faces embellishments.

These are some of the eggs that the Easter Bunny will bring to my family  Wink

Happy Easter Everyone!
10  OCCASIONS AND HOLIDAYS / Easter / Easter Peep Diorama - PBS Sherlock - on: March 18, 2015 04:27:16 PM
We have a Easter Peep Diorama contest going on in the family.
This is my Peep Diorama: BBC (PBS) Sherlock 221B Baker Street Living room.

Because I am a Sherlock nerd fan, I search and found the wallpaper for both walls of the Living Room. I also included the A-Z London Street Atlas guide from the second episode, The Blind Banker and of course Sherlocks violin.

I like the way the mirrorover the fireplace mantel reflects the famous wallpaper.

The books on the coffee table are, Fingerprints Analysis and Understanding & Crime and Criminology.
