11  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Isabella Rosselini in The Saddest Music in the World on: March 04, 2010 08:31:32 AM
One of my favourite films is The Saddest Music in the World (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0366996/), by Guy Madden. Isabella Rosselini plays Lady Port-Huntley, and I've embroidered her here saying the film's best line into her depression-era-Winnepeg microphone.

I just love this quote.  I think I'm most proud of her tiara - I played around with stitches and used chain-stitch, french knots and lazy daisy. Nice.

She took me a few evenings to make, and the finished article is about 8 by 10 inches.  Thank you for gazing at her beauty!   Grin
12  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Nessa from Gavin and Stacey on: February 08, 2010 08:49:23 AM
I loved Gavin and Stacey (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gavin_&_Stacey).  And my favourite character?  Has to be Nessa.  So I printed a photo off t'interwebs, transferred it to some fabric, and sat in the pub with a pint and embroidered it.  Took me a few hours, and a couple of pints of Dave by Great Heck brewery (http://www.greatheckbrewery.co.uk/).  Tidy.

The quote is how Nessa felt on her wedding day - had to be one of the best quotes from series 3.
13  NEEDLEWORK / Needlework: Completed Projects / Louis Wain Cat with Lute on: January 29, 2010 05:47:14 AM
Hello - this is my first project I've posted about on Craftster!  My lovely boyfriend introduced me to the world and work of Louis Wain, the Edwardian artist who painted and drew big eyed, insane anthopomorphic cats. It's a crazy world - you can learn more about Louis at http://www.lilitu.com/catland/intro.shtml.

So, for Christmas I decided to give my boyfriend his own Louis Wain cat. I couldn't afford a painting, and I couldn't find a print I liked, so I decided to embroider a cat. This is a embroidered version of "Cat with Lute" - you can see the original here: http://www.lilitu.com/catland/gallery/lute.shtml.

I've never really been confident with satin stitch, so I decide to get confident, and so this is all pretty much satin stitch. As you can see from the photo it still needs pressing and framing properly. It took me about a month to get it finished, as I couldn't work on it when my boyfriend was around!!  It's about 7 by 5 inches. I'm very proud of it, even though it was only finished on Christmas eve at 10pm!!
