11  Re: Gnomes and Mushrooms Swap CLOSED Mail by Sept 15th in The Swap Gallery by hanshotfirst on: September 02, 2010 02:08:41 PM
I don't even have the words to describe how much I love the package ysmeine sent me, but I'll try.

I got two adorable crocheted mushroom coasters and a great little tray. I like to eat some meals out on my patio, but I hate making multiple trips or balancing plates, so this is perfect. It has a resin (?) coated bottom so I don't have to worry about spills.

I also got a curio shelf which I immediately hung up in my kitchen

And last but not least, my absolute favorite

A fair isle mushroom pillow! She said it was her first time doing fair isle and I am SO impressed! It's gorgeous!! It's all of my favorite colors, too, and it goes perfectly with my decor. I love love love this pillow.

It's also kitty approved!

Everything I got was so thoughtfully crafted to match my style and decor. I can't say thank you enough! Now I have to get my butt in gear to finish my things and send them out.

12  Re: Yarnies Vs Sewists R2 Gallery Sendouts Changed to September 3 in The Swap Gallery by hanshotfirst on: August 31, 2010 09:21:08 PM
Yay! I actually received my package from applesandpumpkins about a week ago, but I go to college in Austin and gave my home address in Houston. I've been patiently waiting for my dad to send it up to me but he was taking his sweet time with it, so I had him open it up and take pictures for me so I could hurry up and post them.

I had fortune cookie cat toys and the crocheted apple cozy on my wist. Just look at that big fancy button! My cat and I will surely fight over it (he has DESTROYED all of my buttons!)

I wanted to include this picture so everyone could see the cute stripes on the tail!

Thanks so much! I'm going back home this weekend and I can't wait to see everything in person and finally be able to bring them back with me.

13  mushroom quilt in Quilting: Completed Projects by hanshotfirst on: July 05, 2010 01:31:40 PM
Before I started getting into quilts I thought I hated patchwork. I thought it was tacky (but not the good kitschy kind of tacky) and old lady like. And then I realized how much easier it is to just cut out a bunch of squares and sew them together than trying to piece something together and I completely changed my mind about it. I found a fat quarter pack of this great retro looking mushroom fabric and I had to buy it. Unfortunately there was only one fat quarter pack, so this only measures about 36.5"x44.5". The back is a nice soft pink flannel, and I used satin blanket binding, but that turned out pretty terribly (see picture) because I decided instead of following the directions, I was just going to wing it in an effort to make the blanket just a little bit bigger. I don't know how people find the patience to cut out their own binding!

See what I mean? Oh well. Next time I'll do it the right way.
All together I'm pretty happy with how this came out. This is only the third quilt I've worked on, and the first one that I've REALLY finished (the first one I totally cheated and didn't even quilt together, just sewed the edges shut, and the second one is all done except for half of the binding)

This is the first one I did

I forget the measurements, but it's pretty small. I'm currently hoarding up fabric to make a full sized quilt for my bed.

I got my package from claire313 a while ago but didn't have time to take a picture. She claimed me for a sewing machine cover and an amigurumi. It's a great improvement from the ugly trash bag looking one I previously had. I can't wait to get my sewing machine set up in my new apartment.. I just bought an orange couch that will match the sparkly(!!!) orange fabric perfectly. Thanks Claire!

15  Last minute Christmas gifts in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by hanshotfirst on: December 24, 2009 04:27:03 PM

I am SO proud of this tote. I was up until 4am sewing and trying to make little patterns for the tote and wallet. I haven't been sewing ~for real~ for that long, no more than two or three months, and I think this tote is the best sewn thing I've done so far. There are no raw edges, everything is neat and tucked in, the stiches are nice and straight, and I took a lot of tim ironing on interfacing to make it nice and sturdy.

The wallet could use a little bit of design work, but it's pretty cute!

I also included one of these "mini wallets"/credit card holder. They're so much fun to sew.

16  Fanboys pillow in Needlework: Completed Projects by hanshotfirst on: December 23, 2009 10:43:33 AM
I look a little break from this board to do swaps and craft for the holidays, but I just did this pillow for a swap and I think it turned out pretty darn cute.

(Link to a full size image, since craftster resized my image in the post so the embroidery looks wonky)
It was for a swap where you could pick the person you're crafting for, and she had a list of movies she liked, one of which was Fanboys, and she also stated that she loved polka dots and her craft room was pink and black. VOILA!

The whole quote is:
You guys both got to stop perpetuating this myth that Boba Fett is some kind of bad-ass. All right? He has a jet pack. So did the Rocketeer. Really cool. When it comes time for battle, the man's Michael Bay - all style, no substance.

17  Re: Last Minute Christmas (US only) Swap Gallery in The Swap Gallery by hanshotfirst on: December 13, 2009 08:57:42 PM

My package from emily_rohr came yesterday! I completely forgot all about the mail until my mom called me today to ask if I got the fabric she sent (she's such an enabler) and I ended up yelling "I GOT KITTY EARRINGS" while still on the phone, which confused her so much because she didn't remember sending any earrings, hehe.
The cat head is a pin cushion, and there are little pin whiskers! I thought it was super cute. Thanks Emily!

I came home from a pretty crummy day and Banga's package was waiting for me at the door! When I read the accompanying note and saw the word "gnome" I knew I was in for something good!
This lil guy was inside.

And it made me go "ommigaaaaaawd"

I also got an adorable wrist pin cushion!

I'm really bad about pin cushions, I always misplace them and end up sticking my pins in anything I can find. Now I won't have that problem!

p.s. She has the neatest handwriting i've ever seen. Did you use a ruler to get the lines so straight?! I don't understand how it's possible!

Yay! I'm so glad you liked it! I had a lot of fun putting it together. I was worried the toys might be a little too big, but I had a vision and I thought "cats be damned!" and proceeded to go for the cameo style. I tried to offset that fact by sticking extra catnip inside, and I guess it worked.
Also, my mom will kill any plant she gets her hands on, but somehow she has always had success with that cat grass, so I hope it works for you too.
I just wanted to add a small picture of the toys, because I'm pretty proud of how the bunny one came out! For the bird and fish I used images that I googled, but I drew up the bunny. I know, I know, it's not very detailed and it doesn't take an amazing artist to draw a little bunny head, but hey, give me some credit!

20  The new and improved green version. in Clothing: Completed Projects: General by hanshotfirst on: November 18, 2009 10:20:05 PM

Both the collar and the cuffs are lined in adorable puppy and kitten vintage inspired fabric. The cuffs can be flipped down to completely hide the fabric, but who would want to hide puppies and kittens??

The back do-hickey.
I will try to get better full length pictures tomorrow and come back and edit this post, but I'm very proud of how it came out.
