24  CLOTHING / Clothing: Completed Projects: General / Re: spring skirt from retro pattern on: March 27, 2006 08:41:06 PM
That is a REALLY cute pattern! I love the belt loops also. I think it looks retro but it would look better a little shorter. Maybe a couple inches above your knee, IMO hitting at your knee is an awkward length, looks a little "nursing student". You did a great job!

funny, i was just looking at the picture thinking that i should shorten the skirt.  i'm glad you confirmed my decision ("nursing student"-lol!).

thanks for the feedback everyone!  i'll post when i've shortened it.

i felt like making something springy to wear while i watch the snow melt (never mind that it makes a big mess--at least spring is coming).  i had this old pattern (60s?) that i found in the thrift store and thought i would try it.  this is the "mini" version pictured...not too "mini" on me lol.

the cool thing about this pattern is that the tops of the pockets make belt loops.

do you think it looks retro?  i can't decide.

this is so wonderful!  it was obviously made with a lot of love, and your daughter will know that especially when she is older.  thanks for showing us!
29  PURSES, BAGS, WALLETS / Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General / Re: TUTORIAL: Make a Lined Zippered Pouch on: December 16, 2005 08:00:23 PM
does anyone know of a place where you can get zippers that are smaller than 6 inches? the smallest ones they sell here are about 8 inches.

you can always shorten plastic zippers.  i do it all the time because i buy zippers really cheap but they're always too long.  just take some heavy thread, stitch across the zipper several times at the bottom end, just above where you want the zipper to end, and cut the end of the zipper off.  the stitching does the same thing as that little metal piece that keeps the zipper together at the end.

does my explanation make sense?

ladolcerita,
i'm awe-inspired! your cards are very bold looking.  next year maybe i will try the turnip trick.  it certainly makes for a good story!

i would love to get any of these cards in the mail...
