I want to mix up some dye stock for painting yarn, but my ratios seem to be off and the dye is bleeding way too much. I'm using Kenenthrol acid milling dyes, what ratios would I be looking at for pale, medium and strong colours?

I'm sorry if this seems like a silly question and has been asked millions of times already but I've been to the ends of the internets and found nothing!

That's awesome! 10p? Wowzer! I managed to pick up a bag full of DPNs and regular straight needles from the charity shop for £3! I was quit a happy lady after that

I've been knitting for years, but only recently started pushing myself. I've been doing fair isle, intarsia, short rows (yay!) and all sorts of various stuffs, in addition to writing my own patterns.

But sock knitting? 


Is there some secret to the technique? I loathe using DPNs, so I use magic loop for knitting in the round. Can someone recommend a step-by-step guide/tutorial for baby socks?

I would just say "knitting is not only time consuming, but very expensive. There's no way I could do it for $10. BUT, how about I make it your Xmas gift?"

Or something like that. I'm pretty blunt, and usually point out that by the time I've told them how much everything will be, they probably won't want me to do it anyway. I usually tell them to imagine how much it'll cost, then triple it. Even then they sometimes don't come close! People presume it's cheap when it's really not.

I really dislike picking; it's soooo boring!
And I dislike the fact that I encouraged my 7 year old daughter's interest in spinning. Because now when I've washed, dried, picked and carded raw fleece, she walks in, picks up the roving and spins it up!
