3591  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Frugal Living Round 3? on: July 12, 2010 06:53:31 PM
Kaz, how could I possibly resist? the last round tempted me out of Swap retirement and the Frugal swap is soooo much fun. I even have a few Frugal blog links to add to the mix if this one is a go.

So do we get to hear the tag line or are you keeping it secret til signups?!  Wink

You're totally going to have to wait. Cheesy

So do the dates work for everyone?  We can push it back if an October send would be better?

3594  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Frugal Living Round 3? on: July 11, 2010 09:28:06 AM
Hi everyone!  I was just curious if anyone would be interested in a third round of the Frugal Living Swap. Smiley

For those who haven't participated, it's a swap where we make things to help out keeping on budget: making reusable things for the kitchen, bath, and home (basically anything so we don't have to buy it!) and inspirational things to help us stay into being frugal!  We've had a lot of fun these past two rounds!

I was thinking signups the last two weeks of July (17-31), partners on August 1st with send-outs September 7th (the day after Labor Day weekend in the US).

I've even got a tag-line ready if there are interested parties!

The flag pie looks so darned festive!  And yummy!

And those caramel apple cupcakes ... oh my yum.  I may have to make these - they sound delicious!

I started on another project for pixieval, but it didn't go off like I planned.  Alas.  I've got a second idea going along similar lines that I think will work out a little better.  Just need to determine how to finish it.  Cheesy

This is such a great idea!  I love the colors you chose, too.  Awesome job!

Hi Kraftykat! Thanks so much.  Cheesy

I got the idea from another Craftster, so I don't mind sharing at all.  I put the sticky side on the fabric and got it all smooth, put another piece of fabric on top of it and lightly ironed it - no steam.  The first time I tried it, I ironed way too long and it got all crinkly.  I think it should work out pretty well for wipeable stuff, but I wouldn't put it in the washing machine or anything.  A hair dryer would probably work even better though since there's no direct heat.  Hmm, I'll have to try that next time!

For the Geezer swap, I made my partner an organizer that goes on the back of the seat in her car.  It has several pockets of different sizes, included a pen pocket and enough pockets for maps and travel books.

It has straps to go around the headrest and to attach to something under the seat so it doesn't flap away in the car.  It's lined with interfacing on both sides so it should stay flat, especially if the top is hooked to something with two "points" (like the headrest - it doesn't just come to a single point like the picture below, but rather it makes a trapezoid with a flattish top).

I also made her a matching trash bag for the car - the inside is lined in the accent fabric coated with clear contact paper that was (very carefully) melted onto it so it can be wiped out after sticky stuff.
