3441  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Fall/Autumn Swap? I know, I know, it's not even summer yet... on: August 31, 2010 09:39:36 AM
Has this happened yet?
3442  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Crafted Set(s) of Notecards on: August 31, 2010 09:09:05 AM
I might be up for this, too!  I'm a bit wary of new swaps at the moment since the school year is starting and I've got Christmas crafts in-progress (oh those knitted socks ... why did I choose to do socks?), but this sounds too fun to pass up!

Oh, these look so cool!  Awesome job - I love the use of the ties!  I will have to try that. Smiley
3444  ORGANIZED CRAFT SWAPS / New Swap Theme Ideas / Re: Frugal Living Round 3? on: August 27, 2010 03:08:58 PM
I'd be interested too.  I had lots of fun in Round 2.  Do we know how big of a swap it will be?  I'm starting grad school in September, so I'm not sure if I could do a large swap on top of that.

Ack, sorry, I didn't get a notification.  I was thinking it'd be a 5 point swap (one medium and three smalls or two mediums and one small), but I'm flexible if others want it to be 4 points (one medium, two smalls or two mediums)?
3445  Craft Swaps / ARCHIVE OF SWAPS THAT ARE TOTALLY FINISHED / Re: Crock Pot Recipe Swap (SU Aug. 21-28, Send by Sept. 11) on: August 22, 2010 07:46:48 AM
Oooh, with school starting up, I wasn't sure I'd have time, but if it's just three recipes ... I could handle that (and the shipping would be super cheap too!)

Oooh, I might be up for this!

I haven't opened this up yet!  Since we had only slight interest back when I was planning, I was thinking mid/late Sept for sign-ups and early Nov for sending - a sort of holidayish version of Frugal Living.

Does that sound good for everyone?
3448  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / Re: A wreath that changes with the seasons! on: August 12, 2010 08:03:15 AM
Very beautiful.  My only worry when buttons are involved, particularly brightly coloured buttons, is the risk of kids putting them in their mouths.

Since I don't have kids, I didn't think of that.  But wreaths are usually hung up on a door or wall, so I would hope any kid that can reach them wouldn't put them in their mouths!

3449  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / A wreath that changes with the seasons! on: August 12, 2010 07:57:26 AM
In the recent Crazy for Christmas challenge, my wonderlous partner, pixieval, had a couple wreaths on her wists.  On one, she noted that she liked the colors because she could use it past Christmas and into spring.  Going off that, I got the idea to make a wreath where the colors can be switched out.

I took a white styrofoam(ish) wreath frame (is that the right word? I want to say mold and that's not it!) and wrapped twill tape around it.  Since they only had bright white tape, I dyed it using tea and threw it in the dryer so it'd be pliable and easy to use.  I thought I was getting too much when I asked for 7 yards, but I had to angle it so it overlapped a lot so there wasn't bunchy places sticking out, so I used all but a few feet!

Enter one chipboard flower to use for tracing, every color felt known to Joann's fabric, some corsage pins with pretty "pearl" heads, some of my favorite buttons, and different color ribbon and I came up with this:

and with some of the extras:

And because I was too exited to send to take more than one picture, pixieval is letting me use the ones she took!

The extras (you can see the buttons!) - all different colors of felt flowers, ribbons and buttons so you can make it fit with any decor/season/holiday!

and with some of the flowers interchanged:

I plan on making one for my mom for Christmas, perhaps with poinsettia leaves or maybe just with the same 'daisy' flower.  It was easy to do and the only time-consuming part was cutting out the flowers (which I did while I watched tv!)
