3321  HOME SWEET HOME / Crafty Housewares: Completed Projects: General / A wreath that changes with the seasons! on: August 12, 2010 07:57:26 AM
In the recent Crazy for Christmas challenge, my wonderlous partner, pixieval, had a couple wreaths on her wists.  On one, she noted that she liked the colors because she could use it past Christmas and into spring.  Going off that, I got the idea to make a wreath where the colors can be switched out.

I took a white styrofoam(ish) wreath frame (is that the right word? I want to say mold and that's not it!) and wrapped twill tape around it.  Since they only had bright white tape, I dyed it using tea and threw it in the dryer so it'd be pliable and easy to use.  I thought I was getting too much when I asked for 7 yards, but I had to angle it so it overlapped a lot so there wasn't bunchy places sticking out, so I used all but a few feet!

Enter one chipboard flower to use for tracing, every color felt known to Joann's fabric, some corsage pins with pretty "pearl" heads, some of my favorite buttons, and different color ribbon and I came up with this:

and with some of the extras:

And because I was too exited to send to take more than one picture, pixieval is letting me use the ones she took!

The extras (you can see the buttons!) - all different colors of felt flowers, ribbons and buttons so you can make it fit with any decor/season/holiday!

and with some of the flowers interchanged:

I plan on making one for my mom for Christmas, perhaps with poinsettia leaves or maybe just with the same 'daisy' flower.  It was easy to do and the only time-consuming part was cutting out the flowers (which I did while I watched tv!)

We actually have 4 packages lingering out there.
One needs to be picked up at the post office, one I am confident will never arrive (not yours lilyla)
and two went through separate customs locations and neither has been updated to their whereabouts - just that they left the sorting facilities on July 16.

For the last Frugal swap, I had a package take 8 weeks to go from Canada to Switzerland.  I think I could have swum across the Atlantic in that length of time.

I received from the utterly fabulous, pixieval today!  Wooot! Oh my, ladies, I was totally spoiled.  Pixieval is AWESOME!  Pic heavy!!!

First, things came wrapped in two awesome Christmas FQs:

And she indulged my nativity-obsession with an AWESOME Holy Family silhouette.  It is so cool and I know just where to hang it come the holiday season!

Four totally adorable star ornaments with BUTTONS.  <3s so very much!  And on the back (or is it the front?) there are vintage Christmas stamps!  Soooo cool!

AND a North Dakota ornament!  I've never been so this is doubly awesome!

And I got a wreath!  YAAAAAAY!  I've been putting off making my own for ... a year and a half, and now I don't have to!  It is AWESOME - both Christmasy and shows my love of all things crafty. It's absolutely PERFECT!

And since we have similar tastes in books, I now have what is likely my last summer read!  I can't wait to start it!

And the piece de resistance ... RUDOLPH PLACEMAT/NAPKIN SET OMG.  I squealed when I saw them.  They are SO awesome!  I didn't know they had fabric in it!!!  The placemats have a really pretty decorate stitch around the edges, too!

Thank you SO MUCH, pixieval!  You were awesome to craft for and I can't tell you enough how much I love this package!!!

So, the thought of my gift got me through my ten hour shift at the restaurant today. And I just opened it and it's lovely! As a server, I wear a uniform apron. Pic included. However, when I opened my gift, I knew that if I could wear it I'd be the blingingest server EVER!! Thank you do much, it's so lovely!

the main fabric is a lovely mottled purple and blue batik, and the accent is a pure and clean light blue. Not to forget the bow of course! Simple with z light feminie touch, it's do lovely!

I'm glad you like it!  Cheesy

Oh and I can't get over how few people have posted their goodies! It's opening day and it has been really really quiet!

I know! I want to see all the goodies!

You are right, there are 1, 2, 3, and 4 star Generals!
I had one of those Mickey hats too, and that is exactly what this reminds me of. It made me feel the happy mommy moments when I saw it!
And I am thinking of stealing the wreath idea for some Christmas presents as well! I am god awful at felt though, so we'll see! lol!
*virtual hug!*

Oh, right.  I think I need to see the movie again, if I'm forgetting such things! Wink  And yay happy mommy moments!

Hee!  Please do steal the idea.  I got a chipboard flower on sale at Joann's and traced it.  I do not trust my scissor skills to freehand anything.  Cheesy  There's really no talent for felt needed!

Oh - and all that felt is ecofelt - made from recycled plastic bottles. Cheesy
