Thank you so very much, T!

Details of swap:

Details of swap:

This swap is all about living (and crafting!) frugally.  Frugal living means something different to each person, but it may include saving money by using cloth napkins, knit/crocheted dishcloths, reusable shopping bags (you save 5 cents for each bag you bring in at my grocery store!), wool dryer balls (seriously, the dryer sheets can be pricey!), reusable menstrual pads or diva cup/moon cup bag and wet bags, soap savers, homemade laundry soap, homemade bath soaks, etc.  Or it may include recipes to try out instead of eating out, a piggy bank/other way of corralling change to take to the bank instead of letting it be eaten by the couch, having a coupon organizer ... the ideas are endless!

This round will be a bit different as we're including holiday themed items in this round!  If you don't want to receive holiday items, no worries - just say so on the questionnaire!  If you do, great!  Any and all winter holidays are accepted!

For this swap, 95% of what you'll use to craft should be from your stash.  The more you use that you already have, the better!  If you absolutely must purchase something, it'd be great if you could get it at the Salvation Army/Goodwill/thrift stores or on sale.  (I don't want to say don't buy anything because I know how it feels to have everything you need except one little thing for a project.)

Crafting Requirements:

The requirements for this swap is 5 points, which will translate to one medium and three smalls OR two  mediums and one small.  If you want to do more, please talk to your partner!  Remember, this is all about frugality so do not feel obligated or pressured into sending more than the requirements.  If your partner mentions spoiling and you can't or won't, be honest!  We're all here to get a handle on saving and becoming more financially in charge of our futures, so no one is going to look down their nose at you if you don't want to or can't send more than the requirements.  Really.  Pinky promise!

For those who need a refresher, here's the Craftster guide to what constitutes each size:

By Time

-Medium = 2 or more hours
-Small = 2 or less hours

By Size
-Medium = one single necklace or bracelet, a scarf
-Small = Earrings, stickers, wallets, pouches, bookmarks

By Price (though really, USE YOUR STASH!!!  The entire package should be less than a small!)
-Medium = $10-$30 dollars
-Small = $10 or less

Communication Requirements:

Checking in on the swap thread at least once a week is required so we know you're still around and crafting!  A quick note saying that you're still working is sufficient.  Since in the last swaps we were a very chatty bunch - and not always on topic - I am requiring that every post have SOMETHING to do with being frugal, being crafty or being craftily frugal.  Also, communicating with your partner is also a necessity.  If you have consistent (and recent) dings on feedback for poor communication or sending late, I may not approve your application.  I will also note communication in feedback!

If you want to participate, PM the following information to the organizer (kaz814) and co-org (puzzler):

Please fill out the questionnaire thoroughly!  If you're unsure of what you'd like to receive, check out the list below (it's a few posts down!)  It's hard to pair partners when I don't know what sorts of things you'd like to receive or what crafts you do!  Thank you so much!!!!

I received two sets of inchies today!

From the fabulous jo_mama:

The E is awesome, but I love the colors on the K!   Gorgeous colors all around, actually!

And from the wonderful soulfiresgrace:

The gear on the 'G' moves!  And the yeti is adorable!

Thank you both so very much!  These are fantastic and gorgeous!

What fabulous glasses (how do you get the etchings so even?  Not the edges, but the actual etching part?) and I love that scarf and wrist warmers!  Awesome!

And I received from craftaddiction today!  Look at the goodies for my mom AND the baby on my list:

Four gorgeous dishcloths, a bath poufy and a little baby toy (it's round and squishy - my cousin's daughter is going to love it!) Cheesy They're going to LOVE everything!  Thank you so much, craftaddiction!

Wow, those are fantastic!

And here are the absolutely fabulous ones I received from sarahj2001!

I think the C is my favorite - there's a little picture of crochet behind the C!  Then again, the U IS updated with fun little threads and the O is not ordinary at all and the I is really cool too. Cheesy And I will try to get a better picture tomorrow - my phone is my best camera (and it's actually really good for most things) so I will see if actually having regular light helps.  I just wanted you all to see the fabulousness!  They rock!  Thank you so much, sarahj!

97  Lunch Bag in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Completed Projects: General by kaz814 on: September 05, 2011 08:25:09 PM
In the Ongoing Holiday List Swap (come play - it's awesome!), I made a lunchbag for craftaddiction's mom.  I'd been hoarding the fabric (which I got from a swap!) for ages and I'm so tickled I finally found something worthy!  I used stiff interfacing as well as batting to make it able to stand on its own and keep things cool/warm, as her mom wishes.

The color's a bit off in this picture (ah camera phone, you're better than my camera but ...), but the outer fabric is dark brown with tan swirls and tan cotton ribbon handles:

And the inside (you can see that it closes with a bit of velcro).  The colors are more true to life in this picture:

It was a lot of fun to make!

I've received from the fabulous TroubleT!

Heee, first of all, three fabulous dishcloths ... I might have to steal one for myself instead of giving them all to mom!  Cheesy:

Then these adorable ornaments.  They make me want to break into my felt stash!  I can't decide which is my favorite.

And finally, the piece de resistance:

HEEEEE!  I keep giggling every time I look over at it!  I love it!  My hoopla wall now has two hooplas.  Woot!

Thank you so much, TroubleT!  I adore it all!

99  Wedding gift: Our Road to Tying the Knot in Weddings and Bridal Showers by kaz814 on: August 15, 2011 09:34:00 AM
So my cousin got married this past July and I wanted to make him and his new wife something as a gift (it also turned out to be cost friendlier!)

I saw a great idea online of using a heart punch to cut important places out of a map and then mounting them.  Loving this idea, I adapted it a bit and came up with this:

I included four places - where they met, where they first lived together, where he proposed and where they actually got married.  I just printed off the wording onto a cardstock paper, mounted the little maps (which I got off Google maps and printed) on cardstock, punched them out (actually I did it the other way - punched first, whoops) and then framed them, using a frame from Joann's.

Closeup:

And on the back, I found a Native American/Indian blessing and adapted it for them ...

It reads:

The road stretches behind you ,
even as the future lies ahead.
A long and winding road,
whose every turning means new discovery.
Old hopes, new laughter, shared fears.
The adventure has just begun!

I hope they like it. Smiley

100  Based on a Book Challenge! in Purses, Bags, Wallets: Discussion and Questions by kaz814 on: August 07, 2011 11:52:39 AM
By popular demand, the theme for the new challenge on Purses, Wallets and Bags will be 'Based on a Book.'  In other words, take your favorite book and make it into a purse or bag!  How you interpret this is up to you, but you may only have one entry, though that entry can have multiple parts.  Please give your entry a unique and descriptive title so we can remember which is which when it comes time to vote!

Here are the details for the challenge:

During the week of September 1st through September 7th (until 11:59 pm, Eastern) you can post pictures of your entry. As it's impossible to know if your entry is 100% original, if you're inspired by someone else's project, please give that person a shout out!

Voting will open on September 8th and run for one week.  Voting will take place and the first place winner (US or non-US) will get:

A  purse-making kit, including outer and inner coordinating fabrics, handles, a pattern, a zipper and a magnetic closure!

There will also be second and third place prizes if we get at least 6 entries!

TO ENTER DURING THE WEEK OF SEPT 1 - SEPT 7, START A NEW THREAD ON THE CHALLENGE ENTRIES BOARD BY CLICKING ON "NEW TOPIC" AND UPLOADING YOUR PICTURES! GOOD LUCK!
