This is my first challenge entry, so yay! When I saw the challenge topic, I couldn't resist. After several trials and errors, I came up with this little flip flop. I made it with #6 plastic with perm marker decoration then once it was shrunk, I painted and sealed the back so it wasn't transparent. I added some beading for the straps and then put it on a silver chain.
(I apologize in advance for the pics. I spent a good hour trying to get good ones but apparently my camera is not good with small things. They were either washed out from the flash or way blurrier than this ...)
And modeled by my penguin, Bert (because nothing says summer like a penguin!)
And closest I can get without it being unrecognizable:
And now modeled by me (thanks to my mom taking the picture):
Thanks for looking! (And concrit totally welcomed!)
One of my co-workers is due June 10th, so of course, I had to make her and her baby a homemade gift. (And pray that she lasts out the rest of the school year!) I sewed her two burp cloths and a bib, but once that was done, I realized I had nothing to put it in.
Joann's Fabric to the rescue! I purchased a plain brown bag, some animal stickers (the nursery is jungle-themed) and some elephant ribbon. Some cutting, use of the permanent markers and a bit of glue, and I came up with this:
I used a stencil and the markers to do the 'It's a boy!' bit.
I made the card separate so she can re-use it for her other friends who will have baby boys.
Okay here is the fabulous collection of goodies that dreadlocklove sent me! I have been absolutely spoiled, and I intend to use the goodies to spoil my friends and family.
The whole lot: (books in the back, lots and lots of awesome patterns for bags, kids clothes and woman's clothes - WOOOT!), velcro, bindings, zippers of all sizes and colors, and some absolutely gorgeous fabric! I am so excited by the patterns and the pink and green and grey fabric is SO SOFT. The grey fabric may end up being made into pillows for my grey and white bedroom. The pink, I think, will end up being a dress for my niece, using one of the patterns, and the flowered fabric will totally be a purse from one of the bag patterns! There are also two packs of twin needles and some really cute labels that say 'From your favorite aunt' - totally going to put this in the dress for my almost-niece.
Closeup of the fabrics (somehow the grey fabric ended up being left out of the picture, but it's AWESOME):
Closeup of the books (total SQUEE about them - soooo many awesome ideas!)
Thank you, dreadlocklove! I hope my thank you gift gets there soon, though I don't know if it even compares to the fabulousness that you sent me!
I finally uploaded the pictures of my porch garden!
My tomatoes (yellow boy on the left, riesentraube next to it), a sickly looking lettuce, and some dying rosemary (seriously, I can't grow it. Ever.)
Thai Striped White Eggplant, basil, basil, basil:
Soapwort (going to see if I can make my own shampoo when I harvest) and sage:
Garlic and beans (either Blue Lake Bush or golden wax - I forget what I put where ...)
More Thai striped white eggplant:
Sugar Snap Snow peas and the other beans:
There's also a hanging basket of parsley (with a volunteer basil that must have dropped last summer when the basil bolted) and a window box of basil and cilantro.
I also have a pair of mourning doves nesting on my porch (they evicted the barn swallows who were here last year and who had already made a nest for this year). I'm hoping that the barn swallows conveyed our understanding to the doves - I don't mess with them and they don't divebomb me. So far, so good!
This is my Gus. He's four and a half (as best as I can estimate) and quite the bunny with Opinions. He's my baby, though, and gives me bunny kisses and such. He's pretty young in this picture, so his ears don't do that much anymore, nor does he hop up on the couch often (booooo).
And this is my Chloe, when I first got her. She's not a healthy bun anymore, sadly, for all that she's the same age as Gus. She's got a brain parasite that makes her balance off and her head tilt, so she gets medicine every day, and her upside eye now has a cataract. Still, she's a very happy rabbit and doesn't let all this get her down. She's the sweetest thing!
Funny thing is, I fostered Chloe in an attempt to give Gus a friend, and adopted her once I knew she was sick (because really, who else is going to adopt a sick rabbit?) but Gus still isn't fond of her, three years after I got her. She loves him, though.
Okay, here are my awesome goodies. Yes, I took a lot of pictures! Please ignore my kitchen floor!
First off, the card and a little piece of paper with tomato seeds in it! I'm going to have to get a new pot to put it in!
A gorgeous embroidered gathering apron:
with a close-up of the cherry tree and sweet bird:
A heatpack (though I think it'd work as a cold pack, too!) It's filled with dried cherry pits - so cool! I totally over-toasted the one I had so I was unable to use it since before the Snowpocalypse here. I'm super excited to get a replacement that's far nicer! (Do you think it can go in the microwave, Andrea?)
A very pretty recipe box with recipes (Rhubarb pie! Tomato Pesto! Something Swiss that sounds SOOO Yummy!) The box goes perfectly with my curtains and may inspire me to actually paint as it's very close to the color I'm considering!
The extras: A turquoise glass candle holder that matches my bathroom PERFECTLY, some awesome coasters in my preferred theme of doors/windows/street scenes (so pretty!) and Swiss cookies in an amazing tin. ETA: The cookies are DELICIOUS OMG!
And finally, the piece de resistance! A windchime that's made out of shells and little silver sand-dollars. It's absolutely GORGEOUS!
Well, given that I've gifted my mother with a plethora of dish cloths for her birthday, Valentine's and Easter, I knew I had to come up with something else for Mother's Day. After perusing Ravelry for inspiration (she bought me some yarn and I wanted to use some of it), I came across this pattern for a knitted wreath.
I started out with a varigated yarn, so when it started going more red than purple, I decided to go with only seven leaves, instead of nine, but I think it turned out pretty cute. It's small - 5-6 inches across, but it'll fit perfectly on a small wall. I might do a larger one (with bigger leaves) for Christmas, in green with red beads.
Ooh, I received! I will take pictures tonight or tomorrow (depending on if I can get dinner done before the sun goes down!) and post them.
It's an AWESOME package.
Okay, here it is!!!
The whole lot:
Closeup of the dishcloths and scrubbies:

Yaaaay! Dryer balls and a swiffer cover! *bounces*
And the piece de resistance - a FANTASTIC bag made out of old jeans. There's gorgeous green fabric for the lining. It is so well-made! I can't wait to take it to the grocery store - everyone will be jealous!
