1  Mini me plush in Toys, Dolls and Playthings: Completed Projects by harledoescrafts on: November 12, 2009 01:55:04 AM
This is my first ever attempt at making a doll of any sort, so please be kind  Cheesy

I wouldn't normally attempt something like this since I have little sewing experience and have to hand-sew anything I make. This little doll came to be while I was putting together a care package for my man overseas. He'd been deployed to the middle east for a few months already when I asked him what he'd like me to send in his care package.  Along with staples like pop tarts, reading material, and gummy candy he asked for something that smells like my perfume to remind him of home. Up until a week ago we've been able to communicate pretty regularly through email and IMing, but he was just moved somewhere where we won't have that luxury. We'll be communicating exclusively through letters and it's uncertain how frequently he'll have the chance to write. I thought that now more than ever he could use a little extra company.

I thought about just sending a piece of clothing or a handkerchief spritzed with the perfume, but then came up with this idea and had to give it a shot. I decided to make him a mini version of me, complete with kitty ears and a replica of a necklace he gave me. Her stuffing is scented with my perfume, and she's got a little dress made of felt and lace off of some gloves I don't wear anymore.

Anyway, enough writing. On to the pics!

She's made of felt and her little ears are velvet. Her necklace is fashioned out of a paper clip. She took me ages, but I'm really proud of her, silly as she is. Sent the package out monday, and he ought to be getting it next week. I really hope he likes her.

Oh, here's a recent pic of me in that necklace for reference

2  Re: Halloween Costume-A-Long? (2009) in Craftalongs by harledoescrafts on: October 06, 2009 02:33:05 PM
Yay costume-a-long!

I'm getting in on this a bit late, but I only found out yesterday that I've got to go to a Halloween party. First time in years I'll be dressing up, and since it's already so close I had to come up with something relatively simple.

I decided on Amy from Futurama. For those of you who don't know:

Pretty simple, right? Not so much. I figured I'd pick up a pink sweatsuit,  a wig and some boots and I'd be done. Apparently matching pink sweatsuits don't exist around here. I found an unhooded, non-zippered, un-cropped pink sweatshirt that's slightly darker in shade to the capri sweats I found. Now I've got to crop it, hood it, zip it, and fade it, plus figure out what to do about a raygun.

Oh, did I not mention I have no sewing machine and my sewing skills are shoddy at best anyway? Yeah. We'll see what happens.

Guess  I'd better get started. I'll update with pics of my progress (or lack thereof) as I go along. Wish me luck?

3  Clip on white kitty ears with detachable bows in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: General by harledoescrafts on: October 03, 2009 08:26:09 PM
Just finished up a custom-made pair of pink and white ears that a friend commissioned me to do. These are my first two-tone ears and I'm pretty happy with how they came out. They're attached to metal hair clips instead of the traditional headband.

I made the bows detachable so that they can be worn with or without, or so bows of other colors can be attached. Being able to remove the bows also makes cleaning easier.
