6  Recycled CD Necklace and Earrings in Trinkets and Jewelry: Completed Projects: Reconstructed by jewelrybug on: January 03, 2010 05:36:15 PM
recycle...recycle...recycle...
I created these items from recycled cds.  I saw a post on here the other night with instructions...and it worked!!!

1. Put the cd in the microwave for 5 seconds.  It will spark and create a lighting show.  I tried to use a cd with a solid white background which burnt (I saw flames!) So don't use the solid white ones.  Don't use the HP CDs with the blue background either.  The blue stuff flaked off really bad and got all over the place.

2.  Cut the cd into the shape that you want.  I stuck to simple squares and rectangles.

3. Put them on a cookie sheet and put them in a pre-heated 400 degree oven (I used a toaster oven).  Only put them in the oven for a couple of minutes.  If you are going to do a two layer - this is where you would place the two together and them put in the oven.

4.  Take them out of the ove and let them cool.  Once cooled you can use a drimmel tool to drill your holes.

Two-layered process used to create necklace.  I think it looks like fused glass.

These are great earrings!
